Yes if we made all cars travel at 5 km/h we wouldnt have as many traffic accidents either. Look the reality is you can always slow a good boat down, you cant make a rubbish one better.

Is the manufacturer's and ex-owners label of "Comfortable performance cruising catamaran" appropriate?
It wasn't the manufacturers label, there was no manufacturer. Its a custom boat.

Anyway, no one was hurt and it seems like it's not going to take much to fix the damage :thumb
And thats the point isnt it. Lot less damage than a mono rolling over.

Factor is attempting ironic humor. He gets upset when anyone suggests cats are more stable inverted than upright.

Frankly the cat vs. mono hissy fits are useless. Several souls from one family died on a mono this week off the coast of Florida. All boats have their limits and can kill when those limits are exceeded.

The most direct comparison, size wise, would be the new Outremer 45, but it is rumoured to be heavy for an Outremer.

Anyway, if we are not careful next we will be saying a heavier displacement cruising cat is a better choice
Unfortunately the heavier displacement didn't stop this Outremer 45 tragedy.

Different Outremer 45 design mate. Totally different, different naval architect, different designer, doesn't even look the same.

The O45 (current design) is a quite a different boat to the earlier O45 Danson design. But hey I suspect you either already knew that - or you have not near as much knowledge of Multihulls as you like to make out. (older one on the left below so that you can learn to pick the difference in the future). But thanks for referring me to that thread, it bought a smile to my face to remember Catty, even though I dont think he ever really left us.

Yes, but its still a capsize of a cruising catamaran. Still very rare and difficult to accomplish but we do ourselves no favors to pretend capsizes of cruising cats can't happen. Its pretty clear that there is a continuum between the lowliest fat cat and lightweight performance cats, and that stability is roughly inversely related. The stability calculations are pretty straightforward.

Agree, but Mr Seaslug had to go back 11 years to find a something to be negative about. I wonder to what purpose?

Good point.

Was a cause determined for Sunsails capsize in 2015?

From the higher end of the displacement length spectrum.

The one in the Azores was a Lagoon.

So much for the out and out cruising ones not being as capsize'able.

Oh dear, here we go again, some multis capsize, some monos sink. It doesn't mean the entire sector of either style is a problem.

Nay nay, Sir !

I sounded stupid I guess. Sorry!

I only sail a silly mono because:

- I bought something before I knew better,
- I can no longer afford a cat.

Nothing in the cat mono war as I love them all and coming from the dinghy racing background I do not demonize things capsized as long as they float.

And this one actually proves the essence point: it capsized and everybody is fine.

Cheers,
b.

Just curious, how did it go over ?
Did it drive the leeward hull under or pitchpole ?
