$ vs. Euro for purchase of French Cats
Just curious, the euro has plunged about 20% vs. the $ in the past half year.
I am wondering if anyone knows if US dealers purchased in $ or Euros. If $, how often is the rate set?
If I am in the US, can I purchase direct in euros in France?
All of a sudden, that 260kE cat that was $340k, should now be $290.
Has me very interested if I can do this. If anyone has these answers, appreciate your input. thanks.

Boats are purchased in euro and final rate is set sometime between the order and delivery, it's up to you when you lock it in or make the full, payment.

Re: $ vs. Euro for purchase of French Cats
Fountaine Pajot has dropped their US dealer prices by 8% this month. I received this in email updates from two separate US FP dealers. Not sure if the other French builders have done the same.

Re: $ vs. Euro for purchase of French Cats
I would expect FP haven't dropped the price, but the dealers have dropped the USD price in light of the exchange rate. Nice of them to drop 8% when the real saving is closer to 20%
Maybe this difference can be explained because some components are in USD, such as broker fees, delivery and commissioning, profit margin etc. Probably a good reason to purchase from a broker dealing in EUD.

Re: $ vs. Euro for purchase of French Cats
spoke to broker, he said i could purchase in euro, locked in when deposit made.
said prices on 2015 have gone up 2%. not quite sure why when europe is having deflation or at best 0.1% inflation, prices can go up 2%. But euro is down 20% since Aug when I had last price list, so that would be better way to go.
thanks for the responses!

Re: $ vs. Euro for purchase of French Cats
I've been looking at the same thing. I checked with my local bank (Chase) and they quoted me what I call a tourist exchange rate which would completely kill any exchange rate savings. I'm still searching for a bank that would transact at a rate closer to the spot rate.
I'm also informed by my local broker I can buy from the factory in Euros or in the US in $$'s.
So, if I can buy Euros at a competitive rate the savings is significant enough to buy from the factory in Europe in euros.

Re: $ vs. Euro for purchase of French Cats
For my business, I buy lots in euros, so i know that the rates you get as a tourist are several points higher. However, when you are talking about buying 250k+ euros, the banks should be giving you a really really good rate. This is not like getting 1k euros...
the recommendation is good, they do have to make money, but it should be within 1 point of spot.

Re: $ vs. Euro for purchase of French Cats
Also, having never purchased a cat before but have purchased monos, will lagoon or fp dealers negotiate on price, or is the price the price? The guys I speak to don't have inventory, so it is build to order. It is not the same as with monos, where they do showroom some stuff, and have dealer options.
