Re: USCG proposes to restrict cruising Catamarans to "calm" weather

I did hear that Monohull Sailors are going to be required to wear USCG approved Automatic Self Inflated Deployment Flotation Assist Survival Harness'es , theres also discussion that the monhulls themselfs could be required to have the same type of deployment flotation bags installed to prevent all these sinkings,,,,Getting strict all the way around. I'd take up water polo but the horses chafe my thighs,,,,,

Ahoy DOJ,
Why didn't you mention Provision 4.1.B, that any lead or asbestos must be removed from any vessel of US flag registry. This is of course following along with last year's California EnvironMental legislation that is nearly identical.

in the uk we are now using "depleted uranium" for keels as it is much heavier than lead, cheaper and more environmentally friendly.

And we have a lot of it after the ban on using it in tank shells, and we accept the worlds crap for recycling

It was ging to be dumped at sea anyway, so its doing a good job and will still end up being dumped when the boats sink

This is a great idea.
Once you tell humans they can not have something they want it even more.
Watch the demand for cats take off now, sales are going to go crazy

Re: USCG proposes to restrict cruising Catamarans to "calm" weather

All joking aside-Itís time to get serious folks these new proposal are not to be taken lightly- what the USCG has done here is going to affect everyone (Americans) who venture offshore- This is not going to stop with the cats and you would be wise to write your congressman-

Two points to consider here:

1 - Do Canadians on the ICW come under USCG jurisdiction? That should be simple enough to answer.

2 - Will the restrictions be based on weather (wind) conditions, or sea conditions? And if the latter, does the ICW ever get rough beyond a slight swell?

Re: USCG proposes to restrict cruising Catamarans to "calm" weather

Once all gov departments get new funding, this will spread and spread. Sure it might kill a few boat building jobs but will create a whole bunch more in enforcement jobs.

Gotta be a vote winner in this year of elections

The EU has just announced a similar thing for all European waters that fall within the Eu agreement as a response!
Ouch!
