Update on my repairs, Gemini Cat

Working on my water pipes in my boat,
The salvagers had cut all the pipes so I had to replace quite a few of them,
But I now have hot and cold water connected and working to the galley, Sink, Shower, Head, and cockpit shower,
I did away with the 110 volt heater and will just use the motor for hot water thru the 6 gallon hot water tank,
I have gone to all 12 volt and 240 volt thru the invertor,
All the pumps needed replacing, They were rusted up solid,
The 12 volt DC motor for the pressure pump was cactus, $800-00 to repair mine, or $1200-00 for a new one,
This is the pressure pump for the watermaker,
I bought a new 10 HP petrol pressure washer, $320-00 AUD, 4800 PSI at 9 LPM, this will run the watermaker,
The pressure gauge and valve on the pressure vessel should be ample to run the watermaker at 800 PSI.
Its a bit of trial and error, But I hope it will work,
There is a video on youtube with a DIY water maker I watched,
I may need to add a pressure gauge and valve on the inlet side of it to control the pressure,
I will see when I hook it all up,

Now I am doing the wiring on it, they were all cut off and got crushed under the floor when it sank,
So a lot needed replacing totally, But Im getting there,

Re: Update on my repairs, Gemini Cat

I just cut out two thru hulls for my Depth sounder and water intake,
One in the bottom of each hull,
I am very happy with my beefed up hulls,
Better than the approx 5 mm original hull thickness,

Its very much piece of mind knowing precisely how thick my new hulls are and are now capable of doing what I want them to do,

Thats sitting on sandy beaches with the tide out in very remote places,
Which was the original plan for my Catamaran,
The Kimberlys in Australia are very remote, Also has a 30 foot tide,

John and Rod have done an excellent job on repairing my Hulls,

Cheers, Brian,

Re: Update on my repairs, Gemini Cat

My biggest worry was the motor in my boat, It hasnt been started for 7 years,
It had been sunk twice a day for seven days till the salvagers got it back to Port Stephens were they got it going again,
Its hasnt been turned over since then,
After a lot of work on it, Changed the oil and fuel was polished, I took about 2 gallons of water out of the tanks, But due to residue still in there, I had water thru the injectors,
New Fuel filters and complete assemblys from China, They were cheaper than just the elements, and cleaning out the water, New Solenoid, cleaning out all the fuel lines, Including pulling the injectors out and making sure they were working properly,
The mongrel still wouldnt fire up,
All wiring was cleaned, Aerostart would make it cough, It wanted to go, But wouldnt,
So I pulled all the fuel lines off, Made sure they were all clean and flowing fuel, and bled it one pipe at a time till I had fuel at the injectors, Still nothing,
Had two batterys hooked up and it was spinning easily, One 900 CCA, 79 Amphrs, one 200 Amphr semi Agm,
12.7 volts on both, 500 watts of solar were keeping them charged,
Had the diesel mechanic booked for next week to look at it,,
Bugga this, It should go, But wont, It is still coughing on the Aerostart, It wants to go,
I havent checked the compression as I dont have a comp tester,
Pulled the Rocker box off it and whacked the valves with a big hammer a few times, Make sure they are seating and no rust or corrosion to stop them sealing,
There was a tiny bit of blow back thru the intake, But nothing serious that worried me,
So I gave it the stick with the starter, I still dont know if the glow plugs are actually working or not,
About 20 seconds at a time, Aerostart in the intake, Its too far away from the Starter button to spray ether as its turning over, I an on my own down here,
So it was just a matter of pushing the buttons and hoping,
Then it just started to wind out, then started coughing and then it fired up, At full stick as I had the throttle on full bore,
So I cut the engine, Think about this, Sonny, Get your act together here,
So I selected neutral and gave it about a fast idle, It turned over but was not starting,
A bit more Aerostart in the guts, Then it started to wind up again and then it fired up and ran, I gave it a few up and downs on the throttle and then it just idled away and purred along,
But I dont have a working Tacho, Every thing else works and the oil pressure is what its supposed to be,
Very pleased with myself, I have a running motor again,

I have both Centre boards back in and roped up, The dunny works after I replaced the rubbers in it, It still has a small leak in the base, But new rubbers in there will fix that,

Changing from 110 volts to 240 volts, I had to make new backing plates for all of them,
I have replaced a few of them, But they are a different size so a few more backing plates need to be made,
I have water in all taps, Including the cockpit shower, All the pumps are wired up and working,
Both rudders are installed and working with new steering cables,
The kick up ropes need to be sorted out, They have new ropes but not sure how they operate yet,
I have installed two solar panels on the rear davits giving me 500 watts of solar power, More than adequate for my needs,
200 Amphr semi AGM that I got for free, It had been sitting there for 12 months and still had 12.7 Amps on it, It flicks the motor over by itself,
But I bought a new 900 CCA, 75 Amphr AGM for a start battery, The one with the round coils,
Lifted the 200 amp battery with a fork lift onto the boat, but dropped it getting it thru the door,
It weighs 73 Kgs, Bit of a struggle for me, But fortunately it wasnt damaged when I dropped it,
Its also connected up to the panels and controller and works fine, Its kept fully charged,

Its been a big job and the large items have been replaced, repaired and or made to work again,
Last major item to be done is a new rubber gaitor on the drive leg and put the new prop on it,
Now to finish painting the furniture, Doors etc, and installing them, They are all being painted with clear polyurethane which makes them waterproof and shows the timber grain still,

Its nearly there,

Cheers, Brian,

They did get it up and running as soon as it was at the dry dock,
Diesels can sit for years with out starting and then they start up very quickly,
Farmers do it all the time,
Mine had water in the fuel and blocked lines,
The old fuel filter fell apart in my hands,
