Two Engines

Hi all.
Know there's been lots of talk about re-engine changing on our cats.

But just wondered. I presently have a single 9.9 outboard and most people asume I would change to two 9.9 inboards. Why ? that would double my engine power .

I would of thought two 6's or 8's would be more than enough and still more than my present.

???

Best regards

If you currently have Yamie 9.9 it is a high thrust o/b and the 6 & 8 are not.

The Yamie will stop you on your length, almost , and the others will do nothing.

how much does your boat weigh? Two 6's should be fine if the 9.9 works.

Tks for responding.
PM is about 3 - 3.5 tones. I just wondered why when replacing one engine (outboard) with two inboards every one seems to double up. using 6's ot 8's reduces the size quite a bit.

Im not sure but it would be much heavier to add two 9 horse inboards. Go with the small ones. Outboards are much cheaper but diesel is a nice feature. I have a 30 hp outboard on my cat. I wouldn't put inboards in the boat as I feel it is too small. I would go with two 15's if I had to change. Perhaps someone on the board knows of some very compact inboards that would suit your needs.

Just found a new site. Search Torqeedo.
Looks good
Maybe the answer need input. I have mailed them to ask there views and cost for a twin instalation. Quite a good site.
Captjohn. I would do the same as I would if I lost my single 9.9.

They look cool. Check out the battery situation. You may need more range. Perhaps lots of solar power would help.
