Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Been there. Tri 40 built in 2008. Decided to grind down and recover all hulls and contour all 90 degree angles. 2 1/2 years on the hard and 75K in expenses, not taking into account my time. Averaged 20-30 hours a week and hired help from time to time. Final step was to take the dodger at 72 inches, cut into thirds and extend to 103 inches. Did most of the dodger work at my home and it took 7 months working on and off.

We are now in the final interior stages and she will be completed by the end of this month...its been a long haul, but worth every minute and every dollar.

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Interesting. We have a Yahama 60 HP mounted behind the sterncastle firewall. It has easy access by removing firewall, held in place by two pins and two clips. Also easy access with overhead hatch if the Powerhouse needs to be lifted (we did it once to to fix a blown piston).

The gear housing assembly is mounted on the bottom of the hull with a through hull connection to the engine. Electric start and hums along at about 8 knots at 1800 RPMs. Simple, clean and out of the way.

I seriously think they should consider giving it away to some worthy person or couple.

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

Yeah, considering a similar spec boat, but in one piece and floating, sold recently in Townsville QLD for AUS$5000 I reckon they are asking a bit much,as US$4K is equivalent to AUS$7k.
Would have bought the AUS one if I'd had the cash at the time.

Hey Seafarer,

How are you coming along with your decision. I noticed this boat came off the web and is now back on. I have been considering for some time, but alas I am just a dreamer, thus the name. I hope it works out for you. Looks like a good project.

Re: Trimaran - Especially Searunner - Owners

If anyone is seriously thinking about the aft cockpit Searunner, my advice is run away and don't touch.

To get a boat cruising able takes an awful amount of time and money and the reduction in cost of this boat compared to a solid but bare Searunner 31 is not worth the rebuild required. It looks like metal checker plate has been used and anyone who converts their Searunner in this way really has to have their understanding of the design and abilties questioned.

So let this one go to the tip and save your time and money for a worthwhile version sitting unloved somewhere else.

Oh... a Searunner 34 on the wrong side of the country from me. You lucky West Coasters should jump on this deal!

Also a well-priced Cyclone 23 for day sailing or distances races! R2AK anyone?

The 34 is tempting. It is only setup as a daysailer.
