Are you contemplating building new or buying
used? If the latter the challenge is going to be finding a boat in good enough condition for your purposes no matter what the design is.
As far as the design goes I have no direct experience with Horstmans. I have seen some criticism of the freeboard/windage. Be that as it may, the first trimaran
to circumnavigate was a Horstman. The boat (Tortuga Too) was stretched by the designer
to 39' for John & Joan Casanova. Amongst their other accomplishments was the invention of the parachute seas anchor
. They proved the concept
of the sea anchor
the hard way, in a storm while rounding Cape Horn.
