Trampolines

We blew out our trampolines crossing the gulfstream in March and need to replace them. We have a Voyage 500. Any advice on what to get and where to order would be appreciated. We had the seatbelt material with 2" sguares but it did get mildew on it, which I think contributed to the tearing. Would the vinyl coated be better? It seems like it would be sticky to lay on.

Thanks,
Silent Faith

Re: Trampolines

Go here http://www.multihullnets.com/, a wealth of info and great people to deal with. I have used them personally and so have many of my clients. We have a vinyl mesh and it is not sticky and is comfortable to walk and lay on. Hope this helps..

2 inch sq. webbing is the way to go and will last the longest.

Re: Trampolines

I second the opinion. We bought an "offshore" from Richard at Sunrise, and they are competent, friendly and go the extra mile when things don't quite work out. It's a lot more comfortable than the previous tramp for sitting, lounging, having a sundowner etc.

Re: Trampolines

Sunrise is good and I always bought my beachcat and F-27 netting from them. That said, I have to say I'm tickled to death with the knotless Dyneema netting I purchased from Net Systems of Washington state US

Catamaran Netting | NET Systems, Inc. | Predator X | Trawl Nets | Trawl Doors | Codends & Brailers | Ultra Cross Netting | Catamaran Netting

It's super light, comfy to lay on and nice open weave.

Re: Trampolines

I would get dyneema mesh. Best tradeoff between strength and openness. I want those waves to get through it and not put too much stress on the tramps.

Re: Trampolines

I used this:

Offshore
3/8" hole Polyester Open Net

It takes some stretching to install but is worth the effort. I did the install by myself while the boat was in the water. Working a little each day, it took four days. I chose the open mesh because it sheds water at a reasonable rate and is very comfortable to walk on. We also went with the white color. It stayed cooler when we were in the Keys. Hope this helps....Sid

Re: Trampolines

I also bought Sunrise Offshore open net. 4 years and a circumnavigation since then and they are still look as good as new. If you are going offshore you really need an open net, as you've already discovered!

Re: Trampolines

Thanks everyone for all the good responses. We bought a dynema for one side just to get us back home and we really have not laid on it yet. We will research the other options mentioned also. Thanks!

Re: Trampolines

I had the 2" polyester webbing nets for 20+ years, before shedding the tattered remains. The Dyneema nets are intriguing, so I'm going to be following this discussion as it progresses. Thanks, folks.

Is that the same as the dynema net?

Never mind, I got on the website and saw the offshore and that is what we had previously. I think the main reason it failed was due to mildew which was visible underneath when we took the torn tramp off. Do you think the vinyl coating would helps with the mildew problem? Would the vinyl be sticky to lay on? Maybe we should get the 2 1/2 inch?

Re: Trampolines

When I had the two inch polyester web tramps, I found them to be an excellent and stable platform for walking, snoozing, and storing gear without snags. Mildew didn't seem to be an issue. I know that the Dyneema would shed water faster, but when stretched tight enough to walk across securely, how comfortable is it? I used a single vinyl-covered lifeline cable with a turnbuckle across the bows, and threaded 1/4" dacron line between the deck and bends of the tramps to get the support. The loads on the individual holes was less than 5 pounds of tension, distributed. I expect I'll use the same system for whatever material the new tramps are.

Re: Trampolines

+1 on the dynema. Had the vinyl. Yes sweaty to lie on. The dynema is a bit harsh on the feet when standing, but comfortable when lying down. Glad I made the change.
