Toilets and Shower More Important Than Sailing Capabilities ?

I need to do a reality check ... I've been spending weeks to find the "right" boat and it seems the candidates are Outremer 50/55 (speed), Lagoon 55 (space), Lagoon 400 (good compromise).

As they cost (to buy) all abt 270K Euro - the question is now what is more important for a very long term cruise (Norway to Argentina to Alaska ... etc)

Even my common sense tells me to go for an Outremer or Lagoon 55, although the concept of Lagoon 400 attracts me. As mentioned in the subject - everything is very cruiser friendly resp. like at home ...

Any opinions from long term cruisers ?

You can get a Discovery 50 for 270k Euro? Now that is a bargain!!!

Is anyone joining you? If not, or infrequently, go with the Outreamer. If the boat's going to be full, the Lagoon 55. If your talking about getting a new Lagoon 400 compared to a 15 year old boat and it's price is the same, I'd probably go with the new boat.

Pretty much impossible for anyone but you to answer. How much stuff will you want to take with you? How many people? Would you prefer to sail 90% of the time or 50%?

There are people circumnavigating in much smaller boats, on much lower budgets. But there are also people who feel they "need" bigger and more luxurious too.

Take the Outremer any day. Room enough for everything you need, and it sails good, and it looks nice.

What do you plan to do more or: sail or spend time at locations once you get there?

get a boat for boat for the majority of the time you will be spending on it

Check out the new Voyage 520 owners version.

http://www.voyageyachts.com/product-...ions/index.asp

We just accepted delivery on one and love it. Only 3 heads and an awesome owners shower but sails like a dream. 27 foot beam. I added 600 watts of solar, should have done 1000. We used more fuel running the generator at night for the AC during our first two week usage. The solar would not have helped that but the 1K solar would be perfect, for all other systems. I got the thin Aurinco panels you can walk on and they look great on the hardtop.

I wouldn't be caught dead on a Lagoon. If you are in the market for a poor quality, poor performing boat then get it. Just look at them and they scream lemon. We have done all kinds of work on them and always amazed and how these boats have become so popular. There are some nice used Outremers out there for a steal. They hold their value, built like a tank and extremely fun to sail.

It is funny how beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Otreamers to me are about the ugliest cat's ever made. Like a bowl on top of a couple banana's.

Ya a bit true. They have a love or hate look to them. But they are built well and sail better than 95% of the other cats out there. A looker is the Shionnings G force Cats of you like modern. I also like Chris White cats but to me they are very ugly boats as well.

I can't argue about the sailing part.

This is still my favorite.

My choice would be for the Outremer, shes designed too sail, and if you can find a 55 "light" that would be a better choice, a buddy in New Caledonia had a 55 "mamou" and his issue was a little leaking around the bridge-deck windows. For ocean sailing and voyaging the Outremer is a good design.

Yea, I hate the look of Otreamers also. They are butt ugly.

BUT Outremer are pretty sweet. On the top of most every list, but just under GunBoat.

Argentina to Alaska -- via Cape Horn? If so, then the Outremer without a doubt. All the headroom and toilets in the world won't get you around that beast and you're going to want every degree of windward ability possible. In a cat, that means daggerboards. Going up the W. Coast of the Americas isn't exactly a picnic, either. You'll want as much sailing ability in both you and your boat as you can get.
