Thinking of Selling your Cat ?

We have less than a month until we hit North America (September 2012) in search of the perfect catamaran to cruise the Caribbean and then back across Pacific via Panama to Oz during 2013.

If you're thinking of selling a newish (2006+) production boat, ideally owner version - let me know! (If you've already listed on a brokerage site - probably already seen it but hey - maybe we should look again!)

Minimum length we're looking for is 38ft - max 46ft, ideal would be 42-44 but we are open to considering anything! Not looking for a project.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Thinking of Selling your Cat?

Price range = competitive against what other similar boats on the market would go for - but hopefully by eliminating the broker commission we (buyer & seller) could both come away happy.

Dear Heatherbrie

Next time you might get a hint from

(a) this is a cruising boat forum not a feline appreciation society forum
(b) the thread was under multihulls - a type of boat known to mankind for many thousands of years not under pets for sale

Happy to be of service

Re: Thinking of Selling your Cat?

Hi I realise your dream must be to sail back across the Pacific .
However I must mention my perfectly suited Fusion Catamaran that will be listed soon on the Fusion Cats site .
Have a look at Tahlai Tiger very newish and set up with the lot of top gear .
We are currently located in Coral Bay half way down the WA coast .
Perfectly situated to cruise the Kimberly where the only real dangers are crocs .
not lowlife Pirates of the Carribean
regards Lance

Re: Thinking of Selling your Cat?

BTW the moment you reach Australia in your foreign
registered vessel you will be restricted to port until you pay I'm
port duty and GST
No ifs or buts .by comparison Indonesia is a very cheap and obliging destination .
Oh I forgot you are also required to pay over $300 for a quarantine inspection .
Australia is definately off cruisers desired destinations

Lance, I expect from POH's post he understands the (GST/import duty) requirements for importing a vessel into Aust and wants to spend time in carrabean and pacific.

Re: Thinking of Selling your Cat?

Australia has a free trade agreement with the US and Chile. If you buy a boat built in either of these countries then you can save some bucks. US built boats are Gemini, Manta, and Ocean Catamarans although the last 2 builders are defunct. Chile makes the Atlantic 57. You did say you had a budget of $1.5 mill, didn't you? There are some Chris White customs for sale as well.
There are some interesting US built customs as well. Good Luck

Re: Thinking of Selling your Cat ?

The free trade idea could work and I recommend a knowlegable Import Agent and to enter in a port you want to spend some time at as above you will be restricted to port until the money is paid .
Any chance of using the free trade agreement will require an authentic CERTIFICATE OF ORIGIN via the builder and overseas Govt Authorities .
Tricky with used boats .
I only mention this here as general info .
Aust has a free trade agreement with Thailand also where my boat was originally manufactured I suggested to Customms on my arrival I would try to claim exemption and then realised it only applied to the Duty of 5% .
I believe the GST still applies .
The laughter from the officer was also convincing.
BTW Broome WA is not a safe port of entry for small vessels.
Harbour control are nasty and expensive you are also demanded to tie up to a most ridiculously high wharf with no help given .
They cannot provide assistanceand still demand the only first point of land is the crazy wharf to allow the Customs and Quarantine on for two hours .

You make it hard not to thread drift. There are whole threads devoted to this. If there is a $300 for all visitors I assure you it's not stopping any noticeable visitors from coming to Australia. $300 is a tiny price to pay in the scheme of things.

Re: Thinking of Selling your Cat ?

The old Lagoon TPIs were built in the US and there is a 42 for sale for 125K now. Needs work but from what i hear it's cheaper having it done in the US than OZ. There are one or 2 Chris White customs that are US built (I think) for sale also.
