Re: Thinking of Selling your Cat ?

Sorry Barry.
I don't wish to upset you. Not if you are going to get serious and quote Big Bad Bruce numbers! That really makes me sit up and take notice. I consider myself absolutely chastened! I promise never to make fun of your Olympic Catana or your gold medals again.
Especially if you threaten to let out any more secrets and special information to the forum about what crappy boats Seawinds are.
Knowledge is power, Baz. You are a powerful man. Use it wisely!

Barry Parkinson - Multihull Consultant
Please Baz, have mercy! Please stop your ruthless use a superior knowledge and your relentless salvos of secret data.

If you don't go easy on me, I'll be forced to fight back. I may be desperate enough you accuse you of plagiarising figures from Multihull Dynamics.com. You wouldn't charge people money for figures from a free website, would ya?

Sorry Baz, but you made me do it.

Re: Thinking of Selling your Cat ?

Okay Barry - Real world Comparison. Catana 471 Ocean Class, skippered by Phillipe Peche, noted RTW sailor. Carbon Rig - $1.5 to 2mill Aus. Seawind 1160 (500K Aus) crewed by a bunch of average blokes.

Brisbane - Gladstone Yacht Race. Catana was 2 minutes an hour quicker over a 40 hour approx race.

Your Australian designed Catana would obviously be much slower than the Ocean 471

One last thing, I think you used the data for the 1200 or some other boat not the 1250 in your figurings, The 1200 and the 1250 are markedly different boats. Certainly your data does not match my specs on the boat.

BTW the Bruce Number for a Catana 381 is 1.18.

Please note - I am not putting rubbish on your boat. I like the older Catanas. quite a lot. But your Bruce Number is pretty ordinary based on your analysis.

Another comparison. Ft Lauderdale to Key West race about 160 miles. A Seawind 1000 finished 1 hour behind a Catana 56 that had a professional race crew. Kinda makes your Catana look like crap, but I still like the old true Lock Crowther designed Catanas. Now they would sail!

Oh Boy! Another self proclaimed Olympic Class Expert here to save us from ourselves!

Judging from the posts, I don't think you are going to generate much "consulting" revenue from the CF crowd.

Go ahead attack my Wildcat 35 too, that should win you some more support here!

I'm thinking you might want to keep your day job.

Re: Thinking of Selling your Cat ?

On another thread, Barry Parkinson claimed to have 2 Olympic medals sailing Tornados as helmsman.

I just talked to two Tornado sailors who have 4 Olympic medals and 3 World Championships between them.

They have never heard of Barry Parkinson.

Seems Barry's been making the rounds on other sailing forums peddling his expertise.

Uh-oh, busted! So, what about it, Barry? How about if you list for us what medals you got, the year you got them, and a few of your team-mates? Will you post a pic or two of your medals and certificates?

Or, would others like to bet that we never hear from "Barry Parkinson -- Multihull Consultant", again?

Nice catch, Mark.

All medal winners are stored in an online database that can be searched here

Sailing Olympic Medal Winners

The link above already has them filtered for sailing events and there is a search box that one can use to search by last name.

Have a look at it
