Re: The sexiest Catamaran ever?

In around 1982 in the UK Ford's Sierra was launched into a market mostly full of sharp-edged 1970's competitors. It was widely disparaged at the time for "looking like it came out of a jelly mould."

I don't remember anybody coming to even verbal blows over their style preference in choice of car - despite constantly hearing the same teasing, piss-taking jokes.
Amused, avuncular tolerance is much more attractive than red-faced ranting don't you think?

By about 1990 all the manufacturers had followed the jelly mould fashion anyway and you could hardly tell one car from another.

Couldn't even give away a boxy-looking car outside the eastern bloc.

Here endeth the parable of the Ford Sierra

Celestialsailor, of course, is now involved in revisionist history in an attempt to justify his initial inflammatory comment that was clearly directed towards catamarans, When he was called out on that, he claimed that he also used the bar of soap slight in relation to Beneteaus. Catalinas and Hunters. When it was pointed out that he was compounding the problem by using offensive terms to deride those who have different tastes/priorities in a boat - including monohulls - he then claimed that he was not just referring to catamarans, Beneteaus, Catalinas and Hunters, he was referring to all fiberglass boats. Right.

If so, why post that in a thread specific to the appearance of catamarans? Why start by saying, again in a thread spcific to 'sexy catamarans', that WE have it wrong? Why when he eventually mentions monohulls did he initially only suggest three popular brands? And if his bar of soap in water slur is only in relation to fiberglass boats of any type, why post it in a thread about catamarans when some are made of wood, aluminum. etc., just like monohulls?

Why? Because it is an effort at revisionist history - albeit a demonstrably poor one - made in an attempt to justify his inflammatory post about catamarans. That having failed, he is now attempting to use an 'offence is the best defence' approach, claimg that you called him a racist. TP12, there is no reasoning with someone like that and no need to justify your eloquent analysis.

Anyway, the cat haters have destroyed another thread. Yahoo!

Wow Brad...you got all that from my few posts? You get the Sherlock Holmes award. Now that you feel better lets talk about Cats unless you enjoy this thread drift.

The Lagoon 42 TPI is my pick for a sexy cat. Don't know why Lagoon didn't keep building this one and making incremental improvements. The current 42 doesn't measure up to this one IMHO.

Re: The sexiest Catamaran ever?

I don't know what all of the stink is about.

A bar of soap is unsinkable. Is that some sort of insult?

Catamarans are inherently sexy, by their very nature, if not their symmetry. Well, maybe Hotrod didn't do a great job on the Flyin Hawaiian, but that was more of a choice of materials issue than anything else.

When I look at a bicycle, I see a complete unit. When I look at a unicycle, I see one wheel, nothing even close to a complete vehicle. That's how I feel about monohulls. An unstable, lead filled single hull prone to excessive heeling right about when the wind is right. They've got to put a keel and a bunch of lead on it to keep it from flopping over right at the dock. WTH??

When it comes to living aboard, 2 hulls are much better than one (especially if you're married to a spicy one) but stability and room are the main reasons. Have you ever seen any animal with one leg naturally occurring in nature?

Of course not, it's unstable. Two legs make for stability. Two hulls make for stability, why anyone would want to spend any appreciable amount of time heeling over in a single hull is beyond me. Well, perhaps it's the same reason people who can't afford a car buy a motorcycle instead. Financial necessity.

Let's discuss this calmly and rationally.

A bike'd be OK if the wheels were in the right place - side by side like a cat, obviously. More stable, see?

And stop lookin' at my arse.
