I think you blokes are a bit nuts.

We won our twilights tonight, by the way. We're also leading our offshore series with the final race tomorrow. Fingers crossed we win it!

Re: The sexiest Catamaran ever?

Thanks to Polux and Jedi - two dyed in thw wool monohullers, for contributing in a positive way to this thread and for acknowledging that they find certain catamarans to be sexy. Unlike those who have posted that cats are 'bars of soap in the water', or who state that it is a 'fact' that cruising cats are ugly, they have demonstrated that they their tastes are not circumscribed by a narrow, traditional set of standards, but that they have an appreciation of good design elements in any type of product.

I suggested earlier that design elements such as sweeping sheers , long overhangs, spoon or clipper bows that are attractive or sexy in a traditional monohull would appear ludicrous on a catamaran; that catamarans are a fundamentally different product from a monohull from a design perspective and that they are developing their own esthetic. Surely anyone except those with closed minds can recognize that there can be good, attractive and yes 'sexy' designs for not only catamarans, but virtually any product.

Consider the Apple Imac - to my eyes it is a beautiful and yes, 'sexy' design for a stationary computer. The absence of a separate box tower, the slim profile, the elegantly curved metal base bracket all contribute to a visually stimulating design.

Consider Mies Van der Roeh's 'Barcelona Chair' from 1929 - an elegantly curved steel frame with exposed leather strapping that is not only 'modern' but 'sexy' and comfortable. Others may prefer traditional furnishings; perhaps a Louis XIV imitation is more to their liking. So be it. But surely it is only the close-minded that cannot recognize good design in different products and varying styles. I feel sorry for them.

I too find the chair sexy. I must confess though when I took it to the water, the lack of 2 hulls made for a wet ride.

Re: The sexiest Catamaran ever?

Weavis, you may be on to something......attach the chair, with vinyl instead of leather strapping and cushions, on two small floats and you could market the 'Barcelona Pool Chair'! On second thought, that would be akin to putting a clock in the stomach of a Buddha. Or a clipper bow on a catamaran.

Re: The sexiest Catamaran ever?

Weavis, that's the chair! And Celestialsailor, just trying to distinguish between monohullers who tried to contribute to this thread (and who can appreciate good design even in products they do not choose to own ) and those who can't and don't.

I don't know about Jedi but even if I have a Monohull I am not certainly not "a dyed in the wool monohuller" and when I was choosing my last boat I considered multihulls, namely a Dragonfly 35 and only did not went ahead because my wife was not satisfied with the interior space and because it was clearly out of budget (about 450 000 euros).

Regarding cats I don't like the look of small ones that seem to me too high on the water but around 50ft and specially over I do find that some are quite good looking. Regarding smaller ones the only one I find really nice is this one and I would gladly have one if they were not so damn expensive (on the used market one from 2009 costs almost a million dollars).
