If there is a big variance, I think it's mostly a temporary one that is related to the increasing interest in multihulls, perhaps contributing to an increasing glut of monohulls.

, multis do not cost more than monos of similar volume and quality. You can't compare them foot for foot of LOA
. Cats are two skinnier hulls side by side; monos one fatter one, so it is a fallacy to compare a 40' cat with a 40' mono -- the cat's actually got 80' of hulls, just skinnier. So an average 40' or 42' cat is similar to a 50' mono in volume, and the cost is similar if you compare same level of quality.
So if you like cats, don't let perceived cost stop you.
