Re: The new Leopard 45!!

Have just noted that Leopard have (finally !!) updated their website with the new 45 ....... and removed the 44.
Will be shown at Annapolis in Oct.
Interesting that the coachroof over the front cockpit (or whatever it is called) no longer has the sliding roof section to make getting in and out of the cockpit easier when going to the bow. The one I sailed last year did not have this feature and it was a nice improvement on the newer 44's. This is interesting as the new 45 has a longer coachroof going forward than the 44. Not a big deal ........ just surprised by this design change.
What is also interesting (well for me!) is that the new 45 does not have the new wiring loom system (yet?) that the new 43 Power Cat has ..... which saved over 500kgs in weight.

As soon as my wife and I saw photos of the Leopard 45 we had the same thought. I've felt for a long time that FP's exterior styling is the best. The Helia is one of the best looking catamarans on the water, not a bad boat to"copy".

Re: The new Leopard 45!!

The Leopard 45 has a draft 4' 10" inches.
That is over 14" inch's deeper than the FP Helia 44 at 3' 8".
Now I know why we always see the Leopards in deeper water where we anchor.

Yes, that does seem a lot on a multi. Not only does it affect anchoring but obviously there is more wetted area so it will affect performance.

Re: The new Leopard 45!!

Too bad about the missing siding coach roof section in the front. I think that's a real convenience. The absence of one seems like it would be a PITA

The difference between the drafts of the Helia and the 45 is a bit of an eye-opener. Anybody know the difference in the displacements?

It's still there. The forward stairs have been relocated to the port side of the sitting area, but notice in the attached photo, that the sliding portion of the roof is still a feature. The stairs are now in line with the door, which should make access in and out easier than on the 44.

You can see the sliding portion open in this shot.

From the specs, we can see that waterline and beam are only slightly larger than on the 44 with a LWL of +1'3", and beam of +5 inches. BUT an additional advertised displacement of +8276 lbs.

That might account for some of the additional draft. That new 45 is a HEAVY boat for it's size at 36156lbs. Even the new FP 47, which is about a foot wider than the L45, and basically the same overall length, weighs in at 4000lbs less. The Helia 44 at ~6 tonnes less.

Thanks for spotting the sliding hatch

The displacement numbers dont seem to add up ...... as the displacment of the 44 and the 45 (from the Leopard website are the same?) from what I found.

And Red Herring those differences to the FP are remarkable

Odd, but likely a mistake. The weight from the manufacturer, Robertson & Caine shows the 44 at 27,880lbs. They have not listed the 45 on their web site yet.
Leopard must be in the process of removing the 44 metadata from their site, as they no longer produce it. But if you google Leopard 44, it still appears as if it were on their site. I believed that's archived stuff. Basically, what I'm saying is that I think the weights, and the weight differences I quoted are accurate. I can't see a larger model weighing the same or less than it's smaller predecessor. It's just isn't Leopards MO. Weight is pretty much irrelevant.
