There's a guy over on SA now claiming to be Hot Rod. It was bound to happen.

You gotta good point there, but is he begrudging the press? Or the wackos lurking in the bushes taking picture of him. He seems kinda easy going and oblivious, a trait I think vital to this whole adventure.

OK, you need to go check out the SA thread. Verifiable proof that Hot Rod and his kid are posting over there now...

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!
Someone said earlier that the Flyin Hawaiian was an ugly boat, well it has to go along way to catch up to this one, seen in Georgetown SC in 2007.
PS It is a Catamaran

Ever stop to think someone may be saying something similar about your boat?

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!
Ugly doesn't matter much with boats. Functional does. It's really nice when the two (that is, esthetics and functionality) coexist at a high level.
I fear the Flyin Hawaian's functionality was low to start with, and will decline by the day. I believe it will end not with a bang (i.e., no catastrophic break-up outside the Golden Gate), but with a whimper -- the beginning of slow seeps through that 3/8 CDX as it dampens and delaminates and cracks; followed by swelling and rot and more seeping, followed by some small impact or event that opens a leak too big to sop up or pump out. And she will wallow down, into the water or onto the mud. . . .

Plus the fact we know nothing about him but some are still able to pass judgment. I find his free spirit rare now-a-days.

Depth where he is anchored is 13, which I'm guessing is in fathoms? 24m to me, which is more than the top of his masts... I think buying a little Bayliner escape pod was a good call, probably the first he's made.

not scary in a proper boat certainly, but this thing is a floating eggshell and I would be damn scared if my family was on board...
Hot Rod posting a lot on SA now, doesn't seem to be interested in any help offered but he wanted an argument and yes, he got one. Barely possible to understand his posts, his standard of literacy seems, shall we say, somewhat rough and ready.

Well...sounds like you have him and his vessel completely figured out.
I vote we get pitch forks and torches and put an end to the situation.

Well, hot rods exact word were, when refering to the complete jackassery of SA:
"This is like preschool revisited"
Hot Rod did ask for help But clearly doesn't trust their motives. So far the help offered at SA is for their holiness enlightened selves to go aboard FH and point out what he did wrong.
Hot rod also mentioned how rewarding it was to build a boat with his son.
As far as the personal attack about his literacy, He is typing by flip phone, and even commented that it was limiting his answers and very frustrating.
I used to think SA was a place for hard core sailors/racer, a little high strung but basically ok people. Frankly, after reading the thread about FH, they are really a bunch of self righteous class A ninnies. I mean..WOW!
Does the be nice rule pertain to the axxholes over at SA? bashing a guy for having the nerve to build a boat without their consent or approval?
