Has anyone ever seen it with the sails up? I'm trying to figure out the mainsail rig...

No motors either. It has been towed around the bay with a ski boat.

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!

I emailed the ebay listing and asked for info about sail performance. We'll see if I get a response.

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!

One good thing about him selling this boat, the vultures may just leave him and his family alone.

Rebel you plan on buying this boat? No? Why are you emailing him questions like you are a buyer?

I hope everyone here gets a shot at a crazy dream, defy the know it alls, and I hope it makes you better for it.

Peace to him and the vultures.

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!

Ocean Girl, a recap.
Hot Rod has claimed to be a pilot but no license was found.
He claimed to be a meteorologist but no records were found.
He said he was going to power this with a pair of 9.9 HP outboards.
He said the boat will sail at 30 knots.
He claimed it will weigh only 10 tons.
He said he will do sea trials on the way to Hawaii.
The last one was something about being a combat veteran. The jury is still out on that one.
And on and on.

Does anyone else here on the forum claim to be an airplane pilot when a simple license search will show that they are not? I would have more sympathy if it wasn't for all the BS.
Check out Raw Faith and Tin Can for more misguided dreams/nightmares.

No. You're not really. You just used judgement to determine someone was being unwise, telling lies, and costing other people money.

Even if he was pursuing a dream, it was not right. And you saw that, and you said that, and now you're under fire for speaking your truth. And that is sad.

Not trying to sound like a smart A$$ but I love how they employ the word "luxury" in their add. I'm just not sure if they understand what they have or what the word means. In either case, very interesting...

From Encyclopędia Britannica:

Quote:
lateen sail, triangular sail that was of decisive importance to medieval navigation. The ancient square sail permitted sailing only before the wind; the lateen was the earliest fore-and-aft sail. The triangular sail was affixed to a long yard or crossbar, mounted at its middle to the top of the mast and angled to extend aft far above the mast and forward down nearly to the deck. The sail, its free corner secured near the stern, was capable of taking the wind on either side, and, by enabling the vessel to tack into the wind, the lateen immensely increased the potential of the sailing ship.

The lateen is believed to have been used in the eastern Mediterranean as early as the 2nd century ce, possibly imported from Egypt or the Persian Gulf. Its effective use by the Arabs caused its rapid spread throughout the Mediterranean, contributing significantly to the resurgence of medieval commerce. Combined with the square sail, it produced the ocean-conquering full-rigged ship. The Sunfish class of one-design sailboats is lateen-rigged.

Interestingly, it's being sold as a sailing vessel, but they chose to list it as a powerboat:

Re: The Flyin Hawaiian is gone!

I don't know, Aussiesuede. The spar attached to the base of the main on the FH doesn't really look like a lateen rig to me. More like the Yoles (traditional bateaux) from Martinique. One of Snort's bedsheets would fit pretty well...
