SUggestions for good comprehensive multihull books

I am looking for some good books about multihulls to add to my collection of sailing books. I want books that either individually or collectively cover all real world aspects of multihulls including design, pros and cons to different features, sailing technique/tuning, maintenance, cruising on a multihull and heavy weather techniques. Basically something that could help prepare someone for cruising and making passages on a multihull. I have sailed and chartered various cats and also took the ASA multihull course so looking to reinforce and expand my knowledge base. The Gregor Trajan book looks like it may be a good read, but hopefully someone can back that up and/or offer additional recommendations.

Thanks,

Matt

I've read Tarjan's book, I wouldn't recommend it. Some of the stuff in there is just plain wrong. He states that rigs should fail before lifting a hull. Wrong. He says you should ease the traveller, not the mainsheet, when overpowered. Wrong.

IMO Gavin Le Sueur's Multihull Seamanship is a better guide.

Multihull Sailing Books - Gavin LeSueur's online bookstore.

I'm glad you said it first. I was biting my tongue. He's also very biased to the FPs with what was, I believe, a vested interest at the time.

Chris White's "The Cruising Multihull" is now very dated, but has some good "timeless" stuff in it. Last published in 97 I think.

Since these books are about Multi's I suggest you get at least two.
In addition to Chris White's book, I have Jim Brown's book too. Also old, but Amazon coughed it up.

They are all outdated. Its well past time for a new multihull book. You'll get better and more cureent info from various designer's websites.

Agreed most are outdated but Chris Whites book is still worthwhile.

I liked Chris Whites book for some of the theory but I don't believe in his design phylosphy. He is very much performance oriented beyond what I believe the average cruiser desires or would be willing to accept in terms of trade offs (YMMV).

Thanks for all the suggestions - I'll look into each one. I sure wish there was a more modern book - something that deals with current technology and current design trends as well as traditional design concepts. I guess I'll glean whatever is available from the tried and true books and use magazines and internet sources to supplement.

Take a look at Derek Harvey's book " Multihulls- For Cruising and Racing" It gives a good overview and covers some things not in the White book.

Phil Berman is a multihull broker, the Multihull corpany. He has extensive knowledge about multihulls and many good articles on his companies website. The articles not only compare multihulls and monohulls, but also discusses the various multihull designs and concepts.
