Storage

The admiral and I have been perusing boats: FPs, Lagoons, Leopards, etc.
So, for those of you living aboard the 35 to 39 footers, where do you keep cooking supplies? Pots, pans, dishes, canned goods, general provisions, etc.

In looking at them a lot, it seems storage for the stuff needed to cook must be down in the amas. So, you go up and down stairs to get stuff rather than the galley down where the stuff is stored.

None of them appear to have enough storage to be at sea for a week, certainly not two.

We want bigger more comfortable berths than our Snowgoose and more head room, but the galley down and the storage for cruising are hard to match.

What are the secrets we are missing?

You aren't missing much. Galley up in boats under 13 Metres just means a small saloon and having to go down anyway to get stuff.

Re: Storage

In our boat all the things that are used daily are close by (pots/pans under stove, plates etc in cupboard next to it, food in a pantry, cups and glasses above the sink). Larger amounts of items and less often used things are stored up in saloon under seats.

Clownfish
You have a galley down like we do. Yours is the first cat I've seen where the galley isn't up and the boat is less than twenty years old. Very nice by the way. My question is really directed at the galley uppers, as they don't seem to have anyplace to put the kind of stuff you need for two weeks offshore for four people.

Re: Storage

A friend of mine has a Leopard 40, which he has sailed from the States to Australia, and then completed a lap of Australia. His Galley is in the saloon. He utilised the space under the dinette for food storage. He installed extra fridge/ freezers under the port beds. The two forward beds also used as bulk food storage. When travelling he frequently had 5-6 people on board.

We spent three weeks with him sailing down the WA coast- we stopped once for provisions in 1800 nm's. We didn't need to resupply.

cheers

Re: Storage

The Lagoon 380 has plenty of storage under the settee in front of the table. Akward access of course but the stool aft of the table is OK, you just lift the cushion to acess the stores.
Its definately lacking overhead storage.
But: You have a nice view when doing the dishes.
