Stand Up Paddle Boards on a Catamaran

I recently purchased two SUPs. I have a Knysna 480 catamaran. Now I am looking for a good, secure, and safe method to secure them to my cat. I have been looking at mounts for the stanchions and also thinking of putting them on my cockpit roof. Looking for suggestions as to how others are securing their boards. They are not inflatables, I decided against them. Thank you.

I have a 45' mono and use the SUPRAX system. Very solid and also very versatile for mounting. You can also add on an extension to make it a 2 board rack. I am very happy with mine.

Garhauer racks are high quality and reasonable cost like all of their hardware. A pair will carry two SUPs.

If you are looking for something a little out of the box.. look up my Davits & Paddlesboards thread.

Re: Stand Up Paddle Boards on a Catamaran

We had 2 inflatable SUPs fixed with ropes on the hardtop (BB385) for 2 years, now the caribbean sun broke them into pieces
I think its not a good idea if you put them on the railing, sure that fixing them on davids would be an option...

Re: Stand Up Paddle Boards on a Catamaran

We have 2 SUPS on the davits, but will probably move them to the cabin top fastened to u-bolts when we go offshore as the kayak lives on the davits at sea. A rack on the stanchions is tempting, but on our boat would affect visibility and I would be very concerned about a wave strike.

Re: Stand Up Paddle Boards on a Catamaran

We lash our paddle board across the top of the dinghy davits. First we tried lashing to the lifelines and stanchions which didn't work out very well, the paddle boards were getting beat up.

Hi Kenomac, I intend also taking very expensive bicycles with me. How do you protect them from the rust?

We bought the Garhauer Marine kayak supports for my paddle board, and they work like a dream.

Re: Stand Up Paddle Boards on a Catamaran

I was thinking something along the lines of a large vacuum bag. Lube the bike up, stick it in the bag, suck out the air ...

Of course I haven't tried looking for bags that size but I'm keen to take my bike on the boat. And a turbo trainer

We carry 2 full-size mountain bikes. At sea we remove the front wheels, pedals and seats and they store easily in a v-berth. Should be no problem on your Mayotte. Lots of Boeshield T-9 and WD keeps them rolling.

Re: Stand Up Paddle Boards on a Catamaran

We keep a SUP board and a surf board in board bags secured to the port stanchion, 6 years no problems. I have a very high end bike which I've kept aboard for 9 years. When not in use it lives in the port bow of our boat. I remove the seat & seat tube as well as the front wheel then the bike lives in a standard sleeping bag ($20 -$30 US), which also protects it from salt water when transporting in the dinghy. I'm on my second sleeping bag, same bike.
