I have taken my dinghy up along that dock in 06. I don't know what boat was sitting there, but I did admire it for a while. Nice video, but I would have loved to see the boat sail through the squall. Thanks for posting....i2f

My lakes are not really large enough for a 50 foot cat - only about 8 acres.

We were on the way back and the squall was in front of the home base - at the time it did not occur to me to ask ... but I wish I had!!

I will hopefully be doing more sailing in SA soon and so will get a chance for rougher weather there ... maybe.

My next video will be next month after SA and will be the Leopard 46 - sea trial plus a tour.

I hope after the video that some may share my confusion about weight of boat and light air performance

It would also be a bit of a bugger getting her up those roads, use to work part of that area up to Builth Wells about 28 years ago, very scenic.
Cheers

Please excuse a huge divertion from the topic but I have to ask Gludy a video question.
I have a heap of DVD's that are multiple vob files. I want to convert them to AVI, which is easy and I have several converters to do it BUT. I want the output file to be a single AVI and all the converters create an avi for each vob and I can't find out how to either join them or just create the single file.
Jeezus I have spent a lot of time trying but no joy yet.
It is a boat related q as I want to put the avi's on a media player for the boat.

please heeeeeeeelp
Mike

What's wrong with simply stitching the AVI's together in a simple video editor - almost any video editing package will do that in a few minutes. Then oiutput as a single avi from the editor.

It sure would have been fun to make a couple speed runs in that flat water reaching in 25kts.

Did you have any indication as to how the boat was loaded? Water, Fuel, etc.? Did the boat have fixed props?

I'm a big fan of those boats too.

Folding props, 59 hp engines.
Water and fuel was almost full.
4 people on board - lots of extras on the boat.

The Leopard test coning soon on video was carried out on a loaded customers boat.

All I can say as a Martian observing the facts - lightness does not always equal speed.

I've been quite happy with a furling screecher and have not flown my chute since mounting it. A spinnaker is a lot for one person to manage. I also noticed that the crewman had to be pretty energetic getting that main down and into the stack pack. I suspect that could be a problem for your (lovely) partner.

Good production values. It would have been wonderful to mount a small second camera above the instruments to reduce the glare and stabilize the image.

Nice voice-over. Scripted or extemporaneous?

In future shots, a cross check with a handheld gps and anemometer would serve well!

In all, Gludy, you have made an excellent choice. This is a magnificent boat, and it will serve you well.

We are almost certainly going for Leisurefurl boom reefing system.

I could have stablised the shots more - the problem was that I only had one opportunity each time - what I will do is feed the data through onto the screen in clear boxes. You can see the instrument values on a full screen TV when playing the DVD.

When I do these videos there is not a lot of understanding on those in control - I just have to grab what I can - once they have seen a video they begin to realise and the second time around its much easier.

The voice over was extemporaneous - just watched and spoke into the mic.

I will see if I can include the gps and hand held anemometer in future.

I was only able to video a small part of the time as I wanted to do all sorts of checks when underway.

What I will be doing is including Lesley with on camera bits so as to add her views on things.

We will be shooting in the St Francis factory soon and may even be there for a launch.

Just thought I would mention that I watched the video during a lull at work and my coworkers, non-sailors all, gathered around, watched the whole thing and asked for more.

Wow, thanks for that great video. We went on board a St Francis 50 at a recent boat show here in Australia and immediately fell in love. Now we just have to win the lottery . Looking forward to the next videos and also hearing about your progress with your beautiful new boat.

Cheers
