Thumbs up St. Francis 44 Catamaran - LAST AND BEST OFFER!

Don't miss out on this one!

PAPAGENA was custom built as an owner’s cruising boat with 3 double cabins (2 en-suite, 1 separate heads). For this purpose the aft section of both hulls was adapted while the forward and central section remained as per original design.

PAPAGENA has proven to be a safe and seaworthy craft capable of handling all kinds of conditions, be it coastal cruising or ocean passages. She performs equally well in light winds and heavy weather and is known for her speed potential. She is easily sailed by a crew of two and provides comfortable and spacious accommodation for six plus ample deck space for day sailing adventures with friends.

PAPAGENA is extensively kitted for world cruising and ready to sail.

Location: Richards Bay, South Africa

BEST PRICE: Euro 160'000

It is deals like this that make it hard for me to justify $120K USD for a ten year old PDQ 36 with outboards. I like large Nav stations, on the PDQ it is a fold down in a hull because at that beam, that is all you can do. I have always like the St. Francis.

Look into the tax situation before you get too interested. From http://www.cruisersforum.com/forums/...chase-410.html

We had considered initially registering the boat in either the US or SA and found problems with both approaches. If I registered the boat in SA I had to pay SA sales tax which was 7% if I remember right. If I didn't register the boat in SA I had something like 30 days to get the boat out of SA before I owed the tax, again, not very likely to be avoided.

All told if I did the deal where the boat was sailed up on her bottom the combined taxes and registration fees came to something like 23%. When the taxes were combined with the cost of shipping or delivery, and inspecting and surveying the boat from long distance, it made the boat a pretty poor deal even though it was roughly 30% below US market value.

Just asked a friend SA boat builder about the above 30 day period for new boats. Here`s his response:

"New boats built as export boats mean that all imported materials are brought in under rebate (470.03) and we have an exporters number and a valid import permit to do this. from the time the imported components land in SA, SA Customs allow us 1 year to keep it. In other words, the yacht must be exported within 1 year period

There is no tax (they actually mean VAT) to pay if you are an export boat"

So it makes sense that if it`s a used boat, then it`s likely that the SA VAT has already been paid...

That price is $210,000 at todays rate. Doesn't seem like a valid comparison to the PDQ. It's almost twice the boat at almost twice the price. It's a good deal except for you are in Cali and it's in South Africa. Time for an extended cruise?

Lavranos is a very good naval architect and well known for his multi-hull concepts.
To me, Papagena is an ideal boat for a traveling couple who want to cruise in optimal comfort.
Splendid design and seems to be very well build.
