It is deals like this that make it hard for me to justify $120K USD for a ten year old PDQ 36 with outboards. I like large Nav stations, on the PDQ it is a fold down in a hull because at that beam, that is all you can do. I have always like the St. Francis.

Just asked a friend SA boat builder about the above 30 day period for new boats. Here`s his response:

"New boats built as export boats mean that all imported materials are brought in under rebate (470.03) and we have an exporters number and a valid import permit to do this. from the time the imported components land in SA, SA Customs allow us 1 year to keep it. In other words, the yacht must be exported within 1 year period

There is no tax (they actually mean VAT) to pay if you are an export boat"

So it makes sense that if it`s a used boat, then it`s likely that the SA VAT has already been paid...

That price is $210,000 at todays rate. Doesn't seem like a valid comparison to the PDQ. It's almost twice the boat at almost twice the price. It's a good deal except for you are in Cali and it's in South Africa. Time for an extended cruise?

Lavranos is a very good naval architect and well known for his multi-hull concepts.
To me, Papagena is an ideal boat for a traveling couple who want to cruise in optimal comfort.
Splendid design and seems to be very well build.
