Yep - plenty of nonsense peddled in this forum. Couldn't agree more.

Re: Spirited 380 Lost in the Coral Sea

Sorry DOJ, not for the first time I can't follow you: when you say that the best lesson is "not to believe the nonsense about a certain type of boat - as peddled for many years on this sub-forum", are you referring to catamarans in general, or the this particular type of catamaran? Since I cannot recall extensive 'peddling' about this particular brand on this sub-forum, I can only assume that you are indicting all catamarans based upon a design/construction flaw that is peculiar to the early versions of this particular model of boat.

Simply put, I am sure that even other 'cat-haters' will agree that this incident does not stand as an indictment against catamarans in general: very few other cats have leaky, exterior engine hatches installed on the transoms. Even with your jaundiced eye, you must surely agree that this is not a feature shared by many boats; indeed, it seems that the builders of even this particular boat have now corrected the problem. What is more, surely even you must agree that in spite of the design flaw in this particular cat, she was still afloat and, based upon the pictures, not in a terrible state at the time she was abandoned.

Re: Spirited 380 Lost in the Coral Sea

P.S. DOJ, calling a fellow forum-member who suffered the loss of his vessel 'an idiot' is hardly appropriate and violates this forum's 'be nice' rule. It is decidedly not conducive to intelligent discourse and I suggest, speaks more to the lack of manners and decency of the author of the comment, than it does the intended target of the slur.

So you're telling people not to believe anything you post?

Excellent advice IMO.

Seems certain members can post pretty much what they like on here. (As long as it's anti-multihull.)

Can not believe some of the nasty words to the OP.
I would rather be alive and boatless then the alternative in this case.
No sails and engines gone, what does the negative group suggest was the best way to get out of there?

Re: Spirited 380 Lost in the Coral Sea

Just as a side question, will most peoples insurance companies cover one for a coral sea crossing in cyclone season, double handed, in a sailing cat, for a reasonable price? Mine doesn't.

Regards

Re: Spirited 380 Lost in the Coral Sea

I came across the Coral sea single handed with out insurance,

That would have been covered for $200-00 extra on my policy,

But as I was in transit, The insurance was always behind me, I was travelling faster than the post could catch up to me,

I started getting insurance for my boat before I left Melbourne,

Finally got it sorted when I was in Bundaberg, Then I didnt need Blue water insurance any more as I was covered for 200 miles off the Australian coast,

Re: Spirited 380 Lost in the Coral Sea

Its entirely peoples own business, but its frustrating that they make comments but don't give enough detail for the rest of us to learn from them. EG if catty's boat is a home built , home designed, ferro cement boat thats unsurveyed then I probably get why his insurance company wont cover him at any cost. It may be he is with a company that doesn't insure anyone offshore.

We just don't know, but it certainly adds little to our collective understanding of the situation.

Some people should get a room. It's always the same ones fighting with each other.

It's a little premature to complain that someone hasn't responded to a question after 18 hours since their last post.

Catty did not mention an "exclusion," he said

"reasonable price." It all depends on what you mean by a "reasonable price." No mention anywhere of an exclusion.
