Spare anchor, where do you keep yours

Curious how other multihull owners keep their spare or second anchor. In a locker, on the stern, up on the bow, etc?

I have an old Danforth from another boat, was considering leaving in a locker, but have seen others who mount to stanchions .

Re: Spare anchor, where do you keep yours

We carry 3 anchors (although I did read an expert opinion on another thread that multihulls can't carry decent anchoring gear, good thing I'm not an expert...) the primary on the bow roller, the others in a locker just forward of the mast.

Ours are in the lazarette. Not particularly handy, but not often needed.

Darn, another thing bad about my boat lol.

I keep the secondary anchor (a Fortress FX 37) in the port side anchor locker, which is just aft of the trampoline.

Re: Spare anchor, where do you keep yours

I've had a Fortress FX55 stored in the locker next to my main anchor but have only had to use it a few times. It's set up for near immediate deployment. This year I'm buying a BŁgel because it should actually work better with the Med bottom conditions. I'll store the Fortress in a bag below.

We also have a small Fortress 37 that can be used as a stern anchor.

Fortress in the stern locker, though I never set it attached to the stern. Why there?

  • The locker is just the right size. Nice fit.
  • If I am taking it out in a dingy I can lower it right in. Easier than fooling with a bow location. The main reason, really.
  • I use a separate rode anyway, joined to the main chain. Setting 2 anchors with rodes going into chain lockers is just asking for a big tangle. Good luck.

Two on the bow, one on stanchions on the port stern and one in the port lazerette. We're hoping to someday have adequate ground tackle.

Cheers,

Re: Spare anchor, where do you keep yours

Does not answer your question but we don't have a spare anchor. If we loose our anchor we will have to get a new one. Reason why is that in all of my time sailing I never had the need for a second anchor. That is why we did not get one this time to save on weight and space.

Re: Spare anchor, where do you keep yours

understand. if you use your anchor 50% of the time you sail, and sail long distances between ports, a spare makes sense. Of need it because you are in tight anchorages far from home, etc. If you only day sail, or cruise to a civilized port every night, even if you anchor every time out, you are going back home at the end of the day and can buy another one. Makes sense. I spent many years really just daysailing and never anchoring, used my anchor 2x in 6 years. Even cruising went to slip or mooring.

Hello all, But we do have a good option to free up those lazarette. It will mount on a vertical or horizontal rail. Check it out at Mantus Anchors.

Re: Spare anchor, where do you keep yours

My two bow anchors are on the foredeck/main cross beam. The main anchor's chain runs to the windlass whereas the secondary anchor gets set/hauled up by hand. A Fortress X37 is on the stern.
