MOST of the LED lights sold are of poor intensity. You get what you pay for. The latest LED technology 1) requires that LEDs be mounted on a heat sink and 2) the LEDs are expensive - $5 -15 EACH, just for the LED. In addition, many cheap LEDs are wired with a resistor. This pretty much defeats the purpose of using LEDs - the resistor just turns electricty into heat.

If you are purchasing LEDs or an LED light/fixture that does NOT have heat sinks for the LED(s), I can assure you, you are buying junk.

That being said, I'm going to order a Sensibulb for evaluation.

Gideon, if you take this discussion over to the Vendor forum you can quote prices there or post an attachment with a price list. There are others who may appreciate this as well. I've recently switched most of my nav & cabin lights over to LED's but still have a few to go.

http://www.defender.com/category.jsp?path=-1|65136&id=739053 - In general, Defender has great prices and a big selection. I'd suggest that people sourcing in the USA check with them first for any yacht goodies, as they are rarely undersold.

Talbot, what LEDs have you actually observed and confirmed to make electrical noise? (RFI)

AFAIK it has been pretty much confirmed that LEDs -never- make observable RFI, it is only control circuits that are pulsing them or doing other trickery that make RFI. And a simple LED light fixture should have none of that circuitry, so no noise problem.

Dimmers, power savers, all those gizmos, can make RFI. The LEDs alone, can't.
