| Registered User ![]() | solar 21 just about to be first solar/electric powered boat to cross atlantic
They've been out at sea for a very long time now, but they are finally approaching the end of the transatlantic stretch, speed about a constant 4 knots. Move that up to 6 or 7 knots on a more comfortable platform and it might be very interesting. transatlantic21: transatlantic21 |

Oh my god... were these people scared at all doing a trans-atlantic in this cool little boat?? I would have been a bit nervous in that it isn't going to get out of the way of storms. Plus... it looks like a bit of a hairy ride in rough seas. Yikes! Very cool concept though. Still has me thinking... why spend a gazillion dollars on solar panels when all they really needed was a mast and a few sails? ![]() Concept boat, I know... but still. Humans seem to often invent more and more complicated things that don't always get the job done better than simple methods. |
