solar 21 just about to be first solar/electric powered boat to cross atlantic

They've been out at sea for a very long time now, but they are finally approaching the end of the transatlantic stretch, speed about a constant 4 knots. Move that up to 6 or 7 knots on a more comfortable platform and it might be very interesting.

They have a bunch of videos on youtube that show the boat. Interesting concept. I agree that it should be larger and use the same technology.

Oh my god... were these people scared at all doing a trans-atlantic in this cool little boat?? I would have been a bit nervous in that it isn't going to get out of the way of storms. Plus... it looks like a bit of a hairy ride in rough seas. Yikes!

Very cool concept though.

Still has me thinking... why spend a gazillion dollars on solar panels when all they really needed was a mast and a few sails?

Concept boat, I know... but still. Humans seem to often invent more and more complicated things that don't always get the job done better than simple methods.
