So just what do you consider "Fully Loaded"?

Saw review on another site for the new FP 40. And as many say as well, it had something in the review that read to the effect of "With a base price around $290,000 ($450,000 fully loaded) the Fountaine Pajot Lucia 40......"

So, what are the varying opinions of what is "fully loaded"?

I imagine I'll get about 50 dif opinions but what the hell, it's Saturday night and I'm bored :-(

I've only ever heard the term "fully loaded" applied in the automotive sector.

If it'll sail and motor at $290,000...the xtra $160,000 will be dead weight for some sailors, robbing performance.

Fully loaded for my experience with the term would be the same vehicle in 4 door sedan 150 horsepower six cylinder or 425 horsepower hemi convertible.

Not sure if this ever applies to smaller cats, but I've recently saw Leopard 58 (if I remember correctly) "on sale" by manufacturer - loaded (not sure if it was "fully loaded") at the base price. It was like 300k of options included for free. Looked quite amazing, at least, on computer screen

Mostly, it's marketing but it just means that all the factory options have been purchased (automotive or boating)


So get the factory price sheet and add up all the options and that's the fully loaded price.

Why not ask the guy who wrote the phrase?

Fully loaded is ready for the passage. Used as a technical term. Here meaning 'with more extensive options' (electronics, sails, etc.)

Options is where the boatyard / dealer makes most money.

Actually I did. I posted the comment/question on their website/article and they've still yet to approve/post it.

I'll have to go to the pricing sheets and see what they consider "base" vs "loaded".

Maybe a spread sheet comparing FP vs Lagoon vs Leopard vs (insert brand here) with the type of detail with not only the major specs but down to the details like genset, water maker, coffee maker, toilet type, I suspect when it comes down to actually purchase for me, I will create a version of this spreadsheet anyways.

*Upgraded engines
*nav/weather
* water maker
* solar & battery upgrades
*LED lights

And then the always popular things around here
* air con
* washer/dryer
* ice maker

Its a basic sailaway model, sails, engine and basic nav etc... or the all the bells and whistles version that so many feel essential for sailing up and down the coast harbour hopping...

In the case of a cat that's 38 feet long with an unloaded displacement of 8900kg, I suspect fully loaded means you'll be motoring a lot instead of sailing

Agree totally. Means nothing. Fully loaded to one is bare bones to another. Other than having a quart of rum inside you, its meaningless.

Maybe also genset, additional fuel tank, leather upholstery, upgraded winches, code 0 and other sails, extending bowsprit, TV/DVD player, sound system, bow thrusters.
