It is plenty fast for me, 19+ kt. 50' and tipping the scales at 16,000 lbs, it can't help but be fast. You did notice the interior shots are devoid of a lot of heavy joinery? As much as I like the fancy, nautical, heavy woodwork, on a racer/cruiser cat, you just don't have that luxury and still be on a weight diet.

Certainly interesting. I like the front cockpit, although combined with the need to have the A frame mounted in the centre of the boat, looks to push the cabin back and reduces the area of a back deck that is favoured by so many cat owners.

The reduced selling prices, after being on the market for over a year could be attributed to the unusual rigging. And to the drive system that have been should to not be everything it has been promised.

Theres no way it cant be if doing 19+ knots in any sort of sea state, which there would be if there was 20+ knots of wind

Must be why they have wet weather gear on for a relatively calm day

I suspect the gear is on for the cold not being the tropics.

I just finished reading the German blog of "do-re-mi", a new SMG 50+, doing the upwind slog from Cape Town SA, to the Med. What was a real eye opener to me was 120+ nm days uphill. I didn't think upwind performance was any cat's attributes.

Super looking boat for sure !! lots of room and even crew bunks !! Can't say I like that wet looking forward cockpit, but it do get ya a better view of whats going on with your sails at least the foresails! but she looks FAST and able even with the little things I don't really don't care for I would buy her if the price was within my buget of 150,000 USD LOL but she is sweet !! Darn it !!

Could get wet in certain conditions, but the almost flat and uncluttered deck makes up for that IMHO.

Many performance multihulls can easily outpoint mono's
Even my last 30 ft cat comfortably outpointed and sailed over the top of the 75ft racing yacht "Hammer of Queensland"

My wife an I were in full cruising mode, dragging a lure sitting in deck chairs having a couple of beers.

It suspect it actually wont be to good punching to windward on a 25 knot day, but thats not the plan anyway.

Umm... Cape Town to almost Cape Verdes is supposed to be a milk run (and looks like their blog proves it). It's only around Cape Verdes that you get into opposing current and winds. Cape Town to Cape Verdes is around 4000 nm. Whereas Cape Verdes to Gibraltar is 1600 nm [all distances are VERY approximate]. So "upwind slog from Cape Town to the Med" is really "upwind slog from Cape Verdes to Gibraltar", no?

You are correct. I should not abbreviate my posts. But 120 nm uphill is still good.
