I think for 80 k I would go with a good mono , I once owned a custom built crowther 33 feet cat, 20 foot beam , that was well suited for offshore and priced around 90 k Aud, so maybe look for an older , well built custom cat is a better option if you want true offshore.

This is hull #44. #45 recently was crushed on the rocks in St. Thomas. I believe #45 was ZTC's old boat.

A 'starter' cat has my interest. I have no idea how to get it to FL for a reasonable price without me sailing it there, and I'm not ready for that yet.

Just another 5 cents to Mr B and comments to his post. As a small cat sailor (used to be normal size now small) when single handing you tend to be cautious and under canvased. Comfort and ease of sailing can make for a more relaxed skipper. Any judgements on speed out there based on miles per day for a cruiser can't be made, too many variables. We all want to make it there safely and in as much comfort as we can afford. Which in my case is an old and slow cat, I'm proud of the old tank.
