Sillette sonic drive

Hey to all,

What I’m looking for is parts for my Sillette Sonic drive. This is what is used on some Prout and Gemini Cats. Has any one had to get parts or know of any one having to acquire parts for a Sillette drive? Not having much luck finding anything on this side of the pond.

Thanks

Gary

You may want to try Bob and Annie's boat yard on the west coast of Florida. I have a Victory 35 Cat and it uses the Sonic drive as well. I understand other Victory owners have used Bob and Annie's for repairs. I needed an replacement for mine and I contacted Sillette directly for my purchase. http://www.sillette.co.uk/

BoB and Annies Boat yard burned down last week

Looks like Arson the fire department says. Read it in the Pine Island Paper.

Dave,

Looks like a sawed off version of my sellett drive. If it was about three times longer it might go. Then I'd have a Yanmar in and out.
Thanks for the look.

We have seen many extended using an appropriate sized mast extension in OZ.

The Yanmar leg does seem to be a lot quieter and a lot less agricultural looking than the sonic, but I must say that the one i'm comparing it to is 7 years old.

Nothing wrong with the sonic, just this was a much cheaper option, and easier for part's if required.

I spotted this recently in a magazine and investigated on the web.
Has anybody tried one.
Generator and Power Boxes to fit to new and existing installations of Yanmar 3JH4E, 4JH4AE.
Now the Mag article suggested it will fit existing units between the engine and sonic drive leg but I would expect this to need the engine moving forward a bit so some heavy lifting and new mounting points or new brackets required BUT:-

3 kW of sustained power (3.2 max) of the existing engine.

www.yanmar.com and go MARINE and KMG65E for details. The power box is a bit bulky at 320x360x145mm 11x14x6inches and 13kg
The generator is listed at 21kg and 105mm (41.3inch) –Note the dimensions don’t tie up.
It does come with Gen Temp + Power Box Temp. + Overload + Insufficient Speed and Autostop for overheat and overload. There’s a double power box option too for nearly 6.0kW if you’re a/c needs are enormous.

There was a mark1 sonic cat leg that was used in my Prout Quest31, it had a crash gearbox built-in. This model is bullet proof, just cannot break it. A little heavy though. Later on they introduced the mark2, without the gearbox, a lot lighter and designed to break(yoke) when run into a solid object, I guess to avoid expensive damage to other parts or structural member, but from what I here it doesn't take much to break the yoke,And they have to be shipped from UK.
Your best bet maybe to get them shipped from UK.

What about putting in twin yanmars with saildrives!!...costly but but what a joy, in harbours and marina besides you would get hull speed a lot easily.

On their website Mark 1 is reffered to as "Sonic Type 1" with built in gearbox, and is available in different lengths. Due to the built in gearbox it may be a little noisy and heavy but very solidly built. Only problem I had was the reverse lock pin, it sheared off which I got re-engineered locally.
Can you get this faulty part re-done/repaired locally?
