Just received an email from Seawind Cats, they sold 5 x new cats at last weekends Sydney Boat Show. Well done I say!

It was a good show for most exhibitors from what I hear. I also got to meet a few people (hi SABBATICAL ) from the forum.

Didnt go this year for first time in awhile. Were there many good deals around? Last year saw plenty of discounting due to recessions everywhere so how did this one rate???

Yes a good show, I guess my only complaint is there is not many things for the cruising sailor, very stink boat orientated. Still I have an invite to go for a sail on Seawind next weekend, it will be interesting to see what 2 x hulls feel like

I'd like to think that there were several decent mono cruising boats as well as the proliferation of production monos from the major production boat manufacturers, being touted as great around the buoys and amazing cruisers as well. It seems to me that what is being offered in Australia by the production cat manufacturers is far more suitable for cruising in Australian waters than the anything the European mono manufacturers are offering. As someone who has just launched a new boat and needing to buy all the bits and pieces, the disappointment for me was the lack of boat gear for sale in the halls. It seemed to be to be a lot of dead stock being offered and not many new ideas on show. And yes Factor, nice to be able to put a face to the Avatar.

I heard from a couple of vendors that it was disappointingly quiet and they didn't do very well and was a waste of time. Interesting...

What were they vending? I didn't speak to any mono guys or power boat guys. But I did speak with two of the other three Cat people.

Oh. Sorry for them, by crikey though, some of them had mega million dollar displays, Sunseeker was way impressive.

I wonder how many possible buyers they turn away by the way they try to "qualify" everyone before they come aboard. I reckon if I pay my $20 at the gate that should entitle me to look at all the boats on display. One manufacturer had a sign saying "Only intending purchasers" may inspect their boats. Does anyone intend to purchase before they've seen something? I call them "Look at me boats". One of my friends who dresses in an Armarni suit and can lay on the BS is allowed onto any boat. I far prefer the lower profile of the cruising community which is just as well because I don't have what is required to join the other community.

I think the - bugger off if you are a loser - sign was at the horizon stand. I am not quite sure how they qualify buyers before talking to them. Must be easy to be a salesman there - you only have to talk with buyers.
