Howsit D&K, that's cool.. I really envy you guys. We went sailin' this week in Long Beach, Ca area, on my friends 37' monohull. I'm just learnin' myself, but I got to help pump out the "honey pots" (at the harbour cleanout station) and never thought I'd be so excited to be cleanin' out the mess. I was smilin' all the way..
Sail on!!

Re: Seawind 1160

I'm curious to hear from owners about lack of helm seating on the 1160s. I think standing is OK but not for hours on end. What do you do?

The 1160 has seating behind each helm if I’m not mistaken.

There is plenty of seating on a 1160. While hand steering I normally would sit on the side deck which gave me a great view of the main as well as the job or screacher. From that position I could see both bows. It was great for watching the on coming wave pattern if we were tacking up wind in a chop or in a large swell.

Plus Seawind now offers Captains chairs just aft of the dual wheel if prefer steering from that position.

Re: Seawind 1160

Helm seat, and motor box with helm cushion only. (You can have either at type on either side, or just the motor box.)

But most of the times your "hours on end" are spent sitting on the aft seats and watching the autopilot steer. With the hardtop overhead to block the sun. And near the rest of the party, not in some raised steering station removed from the rest of the guests.

The windows in front of the steering stations remove, so you can access chart plotter and vhf, but the are sheltered in rain.Click image for larger version

Re: Seawind 1160

Those pics were at anchor, currently Marsh Harbor, waiting on family to fly in and then we're gone again. But here's a shot of the boat sailing under spin. The helm seat and wheel is available, but the autopilot is doing a decent job on its own.Click image for larger version

Re: Seawind 1160

Beautiful pictures, Sailjumanji.
I’m a long-time lurker that has registered just to ask this question: Can the mast on the 1160 be lowered on the water, like the mast on the Seawind 1000XL can? I have been told that it can’t, but I looked at one recently and that sure looked like a hinge at the base of the mast! I’m trying to figure out if it’s possible to get an 1160 under a 54’ bridge, despite it’s air draft of 58.5’.

Thanks for any input on this!

Re: Seawind 1160

No hinge on the mast. Its a 61 ft above water, if you want to clear the VHF antenna and wind instruments.

Mast base, Seawind 1000XL https://imgur.com/gallery/HOOXeXi

Maybe that is just a "one off", but I'm thinking that's a hinge!
(First time trying to post a picture, hoping it works)

Re: Seawind 1160

Seawind 1000 and 1000XL definitely had them, as your pictures show.. I have three friends we cruised with that actually used that feature to clear bridges.

I'm not sure what a Seawind 1060 is. Someone must have renamed their boat model after lengthening the hull. (Sounds like something between a 1000 and a 1000XL. Seawind was still making the 1000XL in 2005, discontinued 1000, and never a 1060.

Here is a pic of the mast base of my 1160 Lite, 2019 model. I helped put the mast together, and was on the boat when stepped with the crane. There is no hinge. And no 1160's or larger models that I know of have a hinge. Ive been a Seawind owner since 2006, active on the owners forum since, and no one has ever hinted at a hinge on the big boats. Seawind even published the procedure for the 1000 and XL, but none of the bigger boats. The mast section is completely different on the 1000 vs 1160. Don't know how else to say it.

Re: Seawind 1160

Bah! I can't believe I messed it up with a typo! That 2nd photo was meant to say mast base of 2005 1160. Sorry for the confusion.
That is, of course, totally different from the mast base of your 1160. Maybe Seawind did the 1160s differently in 2005, or maybe somebody modified it at some point. Either way, that mast may be possible to lower. Somehow. Could be tricky...
Anybody with an older 1160? Near 2005?

Re: Seawind 1160

Maybe. From the pic its impossible to distinguish whether that is a 1000 or an 1160. There have been several masts on 1160s, as the boat was made in both Australia and Vietnam.

Is there more pics of that boat, to certify it is an 1160?
