SeaRunner 34 PHRF

Looking for some input from anyone who has been through the rating process before.... Bought a 1989 SeaRunner 34 ~2 years ago, looking to get in with teh local racing folk (for fun) - charlestonoceanracing.org - but they [like most, i suspect] are focused on monohulls.

Any one out there have a comprable SeaRunner 34 and know / have their PHRF?

thanks!

You can find the high/low/average list for rated boats at http://www.ussailing.org/phrf/Tool_%...021%202008.pdf

No SeaRunners in there though...

BAMA - Bay Area Multihull Association has a list of PHRF ratings for cats and tris. Might find something there.

Good luck racing the monos. I tried that with a Dragonfly 920 and it just didn't work out well, as there is no way to come up with an effective handicapping system that would be fair in a wide range of conditions. We were rated -7 PHRF. If you could restrict yourself to winds "below ~9 knots true" it might be possible for you to compete with a handicap against the higher performance monos, as they'll likely outperform you to windward, but if the wind is above about 10 knots and your boat is light, you'll run away from the pack so fast it won't be "sporting" (and they won't like it).

They also won't like dealing with your "excessive beam" at the starting line or a crowded mark, and you won't like it when a mono going half your speed cuts close in front of you as you're overtaking, (because they have right of way and they want to block you) and the only way to avoid being at fault in a collision is to do a quick come-about (with spinnaker up ).

I hope it works out better for you than it did for me.

These guys may be able to help you out. GLMRA

Pretty active multi racing here but the classes are specific to the boat size and type. (ie multi's race multi's, IRc boats race IRC, Phrf races PHRF,,,,,) but all boat race the same course. Elapsed times are very course dependent.

Try this: Multihull Handicap Rating Systems - Sailing Anarchy Forums

ORCA (Offshore Racing Catamaran Association) may be able to help since they rate a bunch of multis for Southern California activities.
