Re: searching for a sailing trimaran design

try being more specific with your searches and check countries where multihulls are popular - NZ, SA, FR, AUS

e.g. googling 'nz boat designers multihull' gives Malcolm Tennant Multihull Design Ltd - 10-15m with quite a few options.

This Simpson is a great design but I think the plans are extinct which is a shame. Unless someone here knows different ?

Re: searching for a sailing trimaran design

We have been looking for a glass Tri for a long time. My bilding boat years are long over!So I have to find a glass tri already done! So far Ive not found one we like or can afford! Love 37 and 40 ft Brown tris, but all Ive found so far are plywood with glass over. And this is really not something I wish to maintain! I hope you have better luck then we have had !!

bobconnie,

If you are looking for a 50' trimaran you may want to look at the NEEL 50 trimaran that is listed at the following link:

2009 Neel 50 Sail Boat For Sale - www.yachtworld.com

I looked her over 2 weeks ago and she is all there but needs some serious upgrades; rigging, diesel and sails maybe OK. Everything else needs to be gone through. Hull is very solid and I believe she is foam and glass construction. Don't let the price scare you. They are taking all offers and they are very "motivated" to sell.

Simpson Trimaran linked above is a timber boat and has been on market for ages. Had rot problems and was up at Walter green's yard for a while being repaired. Would need a rigorous survey .

Re: Searching for a Sailing Trimaran Design

"She is constructed of high quality fiberglass foam sandwich and Bruynzeel Mahogany plywood."

Probably bulkheads and furniture are ply and the source of the issues, much more fixable than a hull or deck.

Re: Searching for a Sailing Trimaran Design

Have you tried Searunner Trimarans by Jim Brown and John Marples:

Welcome to Searunner Design Partnership | Searunner.com

They use wood-epoxy for their designs for reasons of ease of building and quality construction.
