Re: Schionning Wild Cat 350 Mkii - Should I Buy ?

Tasman is a roger hill design, he is a pretty good designer. Its not the design I would be concerned with its the execution, the Tasman company had a couple of boats with severe delimitation issues. But plenty without. Get a good surveyor and remember the company is out of business. Not a reason to shy away from the boat but a reason to be very careful on the way in.

Factor
Thanks for the warning, at least I can look at the boat with my eyes open.

I really pick the good boats.

I will assume the Leopard 38 is well built?

Re: Schionning Wild Cat 350 Mkii - Should I Buy ?

I think Factor has it in one. Get a good surveyor and ask a lot of questions. If a bit of delamination has occurred but it has been properly fixed (and didn't get wet inside) then you are probably ok. And you possibly have the added advantage that most of the other buyers will be put off by the Bumfuzzle story so the price will be significantly lower than would normally be the case. Every year when you antifoul do a bit of tapping with a hammer (listening for a change in tone).

Apparently the delamination is happening on a lot of (new!) boats, best to get one 5-10 years old that has proven itself. And of course that full survey (make sure surveyor sees lift out of water, the wet hull then the dry hull). He should spent 1-2 hours per hull - checking it - if he doesn't, find one that will.

+1 !!!

Except, in my case, I mean we're all ears. You know, we are all ears, still. Never mind. What's the skinny?

Re: Schionning Wild Cat 350 Mkii - Should I Buy ?

Seems like a good choice on the Leopard 38. I'm always a lot more comfortable considering a boat from a name brand manufacturer with a lot of boats on the water, rather than a one-off where I don't know for sure if it was built properly. That's good business sense. One-offs can be great, but they come with a different set of considerations.

There is currently a nice one for sale in Perth it has has the stern extended 1mtr (larger swim platforms) and the bows made shaper, besides that it is I assume a standard boat, it appears to sail well, has new electronics, well equipped, new diesels and a decent sail wardrobe, also appears to be very well priced.

Any thoughts or knowledge would be appreciated, I have tried google however not much luck.
If you are still interested, I will be happy to discuss WildCats with you. Unlike many of those regurgitating BumFuzzle story ad-nauseum, I actually own one and have sailed a number of others (as well as many other makes and models of cats).

Just let me know.

We have experience with a Wildcat now, really great family cruising boat. Have kept it maintained and have had no problems. Best value for under $300k that we could find. Easy to live-aboard. Can't really say anything negative.

Re: Schionning Wild Cat 350 Mkii - Should I Buy ?

Saw it, not buying it, very poor internal finish for a production boat I thought, no head room in the forward heads you have to duck through the door to get in, then you just cant stand up once in there! You need to back down the steps to traverse from saloon into hulls otherwise you could hit your head (as the owner said he has done a few times), but this is any Schionning trait in smaller boats with single level coach roof. Regarding de-lamination this one has it alright on the deck, you feel it under foot, owner is aware of it and getting it fixed but it goes to show these boats do suffer from delamination, there would be a high chance its elsewhere.
The saloon was of a good size and the cockpit area ok.
The present owner has only had it for a year (bought 2015) so it’s been sold on at least once since 2012 when this thread started.

The Wildcats Not for me.
