Sailing outrigger

Been on the Proa file, Outrig, etc., and have a plan of action in mind, just wanted to see if anyone on here has built, or used a sailing outrigger. I want to make it clear, this is not a Proa, as in it will tack, having a fixed rudder.

Main hull is 16 feet, by 18" with a maximum depth of 24"(meaning the distance from gunwale to keel) and has come together quickly, and rather nicely. My question is about the float...

I originally planned on making the float 10 feet by 12" by 12". Am wondering if I should make it 18 inches "deep" instead, or if maybe 12' loa would be better...

the disclaimer here is that I'm not looking for an all out speed demon, I do want her to sail but, she's going to serve as a dinghy, fishing/surfing canoe, as well as general sailing entertainment.

any and all thoughts are welcome, and I'll try to get some pictures up as I go along.

Since it is going to be a tacking single-outrigger, the float needs to be bigger than the one for a proa, closer to the size a trimaran's ama (outboard hull) -- make sure the volume of the outrigger is bigger than the displacement! I think that accidentally flying the main hull is less bad than pushing the outrigger under... I would think about going for 14feet long and definitely the 18inches depth.

Building it out of ply on frame, at least this time. if it works out, I may make another at a later date....
