pirate Roger Simpson 50

Hi,
I'd like to ask for help-I need information about Roger Simpson Design 50 foot Catamaran built in 1992-"SPIRIT OF LIFE".
Friend of mine own the hulls and rig for it but no plans etc.etc.
Maybe somebody have set of plans (sister ship??), photos, details of whereabout was build or contact details for builder or Roger Simpson, this will help a lot with the project. Unfortunately Boatcraft Pacific in Loganholme, Qld. Australia don't have the correct plans for this version (50ft.X23.5ft.)
Any help will be much appreciated.

I am familiar with Simpson's designs having built a couple over the years. I'm not sure Roger is contactable these days. Can you post some profile Photos. Many of his designs were modified by the builder , so someone here
may recognise the design from the pictures.
Regards.

Re: ROGER SIMPSON 50

Hi,
I'm positive... this is 1992 built model with mini keels, use to be on hard stand in Samson Marina in Thornlands near Victoria Point. I have only pics of the bare hulls in water, all decks and cabins has been removed due to rot...

Mmmm. I'm not sure this is actually a simpson design. Going by the build date and the beam its" Possibly" a very modified 13. Try Boatdesign forum maybe.

Good luck.

Looks like a simpson Woodwind profile But its hard to tell. Certainly looks like a project only a mother could love though. PS - I like simpsons designs, particularly his tris.

Re: ROGER SIMPSON 50

Yes, it's definitely Simpson 50 design... due to it's age Boatcraft in Loganholm don't have this early model plans on hand anymore
I'll try to dig the archives in old Samson marina, maybe a bit of luck there...
on the other hand will be much easier to restore this cat with the set of plans or slightly modify the current 50 ft. plans to suit eg. bulkheads location etc.etc.
Thank you all for the comments and suggestions... I hope one day I'll be able to post photos of this catamaran again in full glory catching the breeze

I'm getting curies if any member of this forum ever come across 1990 Roger Simpson design 50ft. sailing catamaran (also described as Motor Sail?)
any help will be much appreciated

Says who?

My first yacht was a John Pugh 22, said the broker
John Pugh, the designer said he never did a 22

Re: Roger Simpson 50

Yes, I'm a little sceptical that this is a genuine Simpson. It certainly has the angled shear panel and the bow and stern characteristics of that era Simpson design. Can You post a few more dimensions actually measured off the boat. Say max hull waterline beam, beam max overall, and CL/CL beam, also have you actually measured the LOA at 50'?. Also the boat doesn't seem that old to be in such a state. Was there a fire onboard or is it just a rebuild of a poorly built boat?

Regards

Re: Roger Simpson 50

Yesterday got more information from Monty's Marina in Beachmere near Caboulture... The boat (hulls) was truck in on 3/05/89 and the the owner start building the top. I have pretty good idea who my have more information about her and I'll post on it soon...
There was no fire or any nuclear explosion on board this catamaran-simply neglected for what looks like 14 years on hard without proper attention...
left alone exposed to rain and dusty environment, decks and windows give up to heavy rain and damage went out of control ...
Very sad, I have few photos of the interior and truly, I can't believe all this was just dumped...
Never mind, maybe a 'mother's project' or maybe not... hulls in great nick, so everything left to one's imagination... really

Re: Roger Simpson 50

Hi, I was thinking about buying her but transport costs and lack of plans persuaded me not to. I am not sure she is a Simpson either. Have you tried contacting QLD Transport using the registration details to see if they have any records of her past?
