raw water impeller on Onan

Capt Larry. On your 450 you will find a one way valve located close to the lift pump. It will tend to collect weeds and other debris preventing it from closing and will drain the water above it. Remove, inspect and clean it. Its now part of your regular maintenance schedule.

We also replaced this OW valve for a better quality one however any valve will malfunction if there is a small twig in it.

The run-dry impellor is also a good solution.

Hi , for the impeller I remember seeing on Catamaran IMPI channel solution was to add a pump and remove the impeller completely

Im trying to find these Globe dry-run impellers but having no success matching the Globe impeller to the Onan-Cummins impeller. I have the MDKBN generator, is this the same as yours? Would you have a model nr for the Globe dry run impeller? Thanks

Hi Steve,

Yes, I have the same 11kva Onan and the same model number. The Run Dry you want to order is Globe Run-Dry Impeller #1130 (01-12-1790). So far it works.
PS I removed the non-return valve as it just clogs and so the water drains out. I found that the electric pump ran for long enough to easily fill the strainer next to the Onan prior to start. I suspect that regardless of the fixes suggested the impeller will nearly always start dry.
