Pure magic cat wrecked off NSW south coast.

Use saw on the news that a 10 m cat has been wrecked off Malacoota (sp). On the way from Hobart to Eden I think. Anyone know what the story is. All I saw was a gentleman and lady shaking the hands of a police officer who rescued them. Good on you mate!!

Yeh really sad. I saw it on 7 news too. At least they are both alive and well.

Very sad if they lose the boat but i can only hope at 75 i am out sailing around.

I sailed past that area just a few months ago with a the wind on the nose NE the coast along there is very rough I had 5k of sea room had to tack 26 times to over night at Gabo , I would like to know how they came to hit the beach? A NE wind is an on shore wind. The wind they had must have been very strong, the boat was a mess total right off they did say that they would be back out on the water as soon as they find another boat. Take my hat off too them.

They has west and south west winds up to 47 knots, it would have been tough being in those waters in that sort of conditions.
Its one of the biggest gaps on the coast from say Melbourne to Qld with no where to shelter or anchor for about 125 miles between ports.
They were 74 miles from Lakes Enterance into a 30-45 knot headwind plus ugly seas or 55 miles to Eden arouns the corner with no doubt a big ugly sea behind the boat.

Any one work out what type of boat it was?? I liked hearing the way he spoke, very complimentary of the cop that helped him. Then he was talking about the next boat!! I liked him!

I have a little info and from that it seems that they had issues and may have made a decision to drive, or at least let the boat go onto the beach the boat onto the beach, mind you some news outlets are reporting it was a 30 metre vessel, so obviously the detail of the story is still not clear to the media.

Mind you even the Victoria Police press release mentions 30 metre cat so?? Perheaps things got confused between 30ft and 30 metre??

Police have rescued a couple in their 70s after their catamaran ran aground at Wingan Inlet, 60 kilometres west of Gabo Island last night. The husband and wife, both aged 75, were on a trip from Hobart to Eden when their 30 metre catamaran was damaged in rough weather. At approximately 4pm they managed to get a message to a friend who alerted police. A police member from Mallacoota managed to reach the couple after driving some distance and then trekking the final hour of remote coastline on foot, The catamaran had been severely damaged with both rudders broken and a decision was made to abandon ship.

A helicopter from Sale set down on the beach, near the vessel, with a paramedic and a water police member on board to assist the couple. At 11pm, after being checked by the paramedic, the couple were flown to Mallacoota where they will spend the night. The catamaran was secured and will be salvaged at a later date.

It's pure magic not pure majik...first thing I looked for...thought the same thing when I heard. The tv pics showed the name on the bow.

There's an Australian registered Pure Magic. Says it's a 12.2 metre cat. Not necessarily the same boat though.

I only saw a short glimpse on TV news, but I thought it looked fibreglass. There was footage of a torn and twisted hull, where you could see down into the interior of the hull, but no sign of any structural frames on the inside of the hull skin.

It looked like Fibreglass and Very broken,

Very sad to see.

Is there any more info on it,
