Re: Pure magic cat wrecked off NSW south coast.

We chatted to the husband in Hobart at Easter when we were looking at their boat from the dock after we finished the 3 Peaks Race. It is a Hitchhiker. Husband and wife crew, didn't meet the wife. Husband was very strong and healthy for a 75 yr old! They had nearly circumnavigated Oz anti-clockwise (only need to get back to Queensland), and had weathered several major storms successfully. He did note that the outboards got swamped in high seas and they had to be assisted into harbour because of this after one storm, but otherwise he was impressed by the seaworthiness of the boat. Really nice guy, beautifully kept boat - very sad to see the pics.

Ok...that clears up what boat it is. Now we need to find out what happened and what are the lessons.

Re the cop...he was saying that he was standing on the rudder during the rescue when the rudder got hit by a wave and launched him into the boat...!!! He walked out to the boat so it must have been right up on the shore when they were taken off.

I hope I have that kind of ticker when I am 75.

Mick
