Provisioning for a Charter out of Dream Yacht in Tortola

I am sure this questionhas been broached before, but I did a quick search and didn't find the answer.
I am taking my family and another to the BVI in July. We are getting the Catana 55 carbon infusion for 9 nights. There will be 9 people total (w kids). I have never chartered from Dream Yachts. Does anyone have suggestions as to a convenient (and relatively decently priced) way to provision from that end the island?

Thanks ahead of time.

Re: provisioning for a charter out of Dream Yacht in Tortola

dream charter is in east end, dont know of any reasonable sized supermarkets there, and as there will be 9 peopleyou will need to buy a fair bit of food and drinks. there is a large cash and carry (well priced) next to a "normal" supermarket in Road Town , pretty much opposite the Moorings/Sunsail base. Also good French bakery across from them. Would be worth your while jumping in a car or taxi , you can combine with a quick look around Road Town (which is pretty boring).
You can then top up at West End and Cane Garden Bay as both have small but well stocked markets.

When we sail out of Tortola, my wife always uses Bobby's. They deliver to the boat and we have never had a problem with what they deliver. You pre order from their website (my wife likes that you download a spreadsheet ... put in the quantities of everything you want and send it off ... so she can take some time making the list). We have found the prices comparable to the small cash and carries and she loves that we can schedule the drop off time. They have delivered for us on Boxing Day and other British holidays with no problem and have provisioned for 12 several times this way.

Their website is Bobby's Market Place, British Virgin Islands - Supermarket, Villa and Yacht Provisioning Specialists

Good luck and enjoy.

Re: Provisioning for a Charter out of Dream Yacht in Tortola

Thinking of spending a couple of days in Anegada. I am tired of the mooring wars and crowded anchorage off setting point however. Will prob spend one night off palmetto point, and was curious about whether or not anybody had ever navigated or gone to the anchorage off of the Settlement (little anegada/lower bay).

Re: Provisioning for a Charter out of Dream Yacht in Tortola

We saved a ton of money and ate much higher quality food on our last charter by packing a single, 50 pound cooler bag of frozen meats and vegetables. One hour spent in Costco and the $25 checked bag charge probably saved us $300 on a seven day, seven person charter in the BVI. Not to mention, we've not had the best luck in the past with the cuts of meat available at grocery stores on Tortola. We even saved the receipt and declared the food at customs, but the customs officer didn't even open the bag and just waved us through with no charge.

Obviously, we had to provision many other items locally and had pretty good luck with Bobby's in Road Town.

Hope this helps. Have a great vacation!

Re: Provisioning for a Charter out of Dream Yacht in Tortola

We always used to take a couple of large hockey bags full of food with us (usually 4 or 6 in group). We filled them with stuff that's expensive in BVI like all the munchies for happy hour, like Pringles and Planters peanuts and all sorts of canned goodies. There is duty on food going into BVI. We would tell the customs officer we had $100 worth of food and give him $10. No receipt, no problem. Of course this was before the airlines charged an arm and a leg for luggage.
