One of the cats on my list is a Prout Snowgoose 37. The Snowgoose ticks most of the boxes although a biggie is the lack of headroom in the saloon. The problem is I'm 6'2" tall and would really like a cat with full headroom across the walkway between the hulls. I'm wondering about the viability of raising the bridgedeck roof across the walkway to make this possible. Although I'm sure it's do-able from a construction point of view, I'm wondering how it would affect the eventual resale value and if the finished result might look hideous anyway, in which case it's a non-starter purely from that point of view. Comments welcome.

Snowgoose before 1996 have after shrouds mounted on the coach roof, so you would be weakening an important part of the structure.

After 1996, this was mounted on chain plates on the hull, so would no longer apply.

It would however, be a lot of work for not a lot of return, and it is something you get used to fairly easily anyway. - after all, why would you be standing in that area anyway!

You stand there cos thats where you live. I agree, only a hobbit could live on a snowgoose. I spent a day sitting down cos the weather out was crap, and doing the assault course in and out of the hulls was a joke. Sure couldnt do it in a chop with a cup of tea in one hand. I went to view a catalac once with the impression it had head room in the saloon, .......it did, just in the companionway with the hatch open. Hardly what i call impressive comfort.

Well I'm no hobbit! I agree with anjou - I'd want to stand there because I'd be living aboard. Talbot, would you buy a house without standing headroom?!

I lived for many years in a house where I had to duck to get through doors and under beams, and my bedroom was significantly higher on one side than the other!

Didn't worry me, I got used to it.

I had a catalac 9m for 21 years - never had a problem there either and I am 6ft 1"

Been cross channel in a snowgoose elite, and had no problems whatsover moving around in the saloon with or without full hands.

I get much more peeved when the beds are too short and too narrow

If you want headroom look into the lagoon 37s plenty of headroom, and a good livaboard boat. I also am 6'1 and I like headroom

I already have a Lagoon 37 listed as a possible maybe. I'm just trying to explore possibilities with a Snowgoose before ruling it out. Nice, rugged, go-anywhere boats, apart from the headroom issue.

Our South African Prout 38' (same basic design as 39 Escale) has head room at entry and the hulls. Head room is hulls is also good. We have had 2 different 6' 4" friends sail with us with no problem. As you go forward in saloon, overhead slopes down, but you're normally setting down when you are there.

Same rugged build quality and "Prout" rig you like so much in a Snow Goose.

Ditto for my Solaris Sunstream 40 - built to Lloyd's Unlimited Offshore specs, with the 'Prout' style cutter rig and full headroom in the hulls and in the main saloon up until the far end of the table.

The Solaris Sunstream, Sunstar and Sunrise are all on the list of possibles, although they are all very different designs.

I know little of the Prout 38 and I can't recall ever seeing one come up on yachtworld.

A quick search on Yacht World only turned up one Prout 38' Manta and it is one of the very early ones. Interiors vary considerably from boat to boat since many were finished by buyers and/or finished at factory to buyer specs.
