I am trying to find out high high my boat should be floating in the water. I am afraid so much stuff has been added is is to low. I noticed the stainless fuel tank is in salt water and in the center below the batteries the floor rotted out and to my surprise sea water in a small compartment. Me thinks this compartment with about 6" of water should be dry. Any one have a measurement from top of rear deck to water line or up from rudder to waterline. Mac on quixotic

For some reason in the center rear directly in front of the fuel tank wall there is a small chamber about 2 or 3 cubic feet, that had a wood and fiberglass floor over it till my battery fell through. Why it isn't isolated from the rear cockpit drain and where the fuel tank sets is really strange. It mat be a defect because the hole at the lowest part lets water in slowly but reaches sea level. I see no use and will try to seal it dry. My other concern is the fuel tank bottom is located in the cockpit drain area and has salt water on the bottom. I'm just thinking there is a bit too much weight in the rear, with dive tanks dingy and davits, hard Bimini, batteries . I am wondering if other Prouts have the drain out of the water?

if you are talking about the self bailing locker in the center of the cock pit,the interiour moulding should be at least 8 inches above the waterline.

the interiour moulding has a piece of fiber glass pipe that should be glassed tho the hull in the center nacelle,and the under side of the cockpit moulding.

the center nacelll at the very stern,where the sonic drive is on the plans should be 1-2 inches underwater.

i have a reasonably complete set of plans for the elite.

as you can see in the photo above in the previous post.
looking aft,just above the sponge in the photo is the moulding of the cockpit locker,that terminates a good 8"above the engine compartment well,that is bonded directly to the inside of the nacelle.

Thanks atoll, you answered my question. I will measure. The picture of the fuel tank compartment is like mine. Does your have a smallhole opposite the self bailing hole?

mine is currently in the construction phase,so no other holes in the fuel tank compartment,
but i belive the designers led the bilge pump outlets,and water tank breathers to vent,near the top aft part of the well.

some prouts had teak gratings as covers above,others laninated or plywood covers,which would also have a hole to allow the cockpit to self bail.

I checked some things, the top of rudder is 13" under water and the rear "v" is about 8", that sound like too much. They must have messed up the glass job between the sump under the batteries for water to come in from the tank compartment. I will get som dye and figure this out.

in the nacell there should only be 3 holes along the centerline,the drain for the cockpit well,the drain for the anchor locker,and the drain for the gas locker.

the glassing between the cockpit well tube and nacell is very substantial.

in the last photo in post#7 of the primer coat on the hull,showing the waterline.

the "actual" waterline is about 3" above the top of the rudders.

as i have allowed for a 4" boot top,and the antifouling raised about 4" above the designed waterline.

it sounds like your boat is way overloaded!,though it should still not leak through the nacell.
if you are on the pacific side in panama it might be easiest to beach the boat between tides and see where water leaks out!

I have heard of people putting extra flotation on the rear of their Prouts now I see why. It looks like the water line should be below the cutback on the hull or else lots of drag through the water.

not sure if you can zoom in on this photo,but it shows the water line,just above the rudders,and well below the cutback in the plans.
