Prout Quest 33 auxiliary engine ?

Just wondering - how many Quest 31 or 33 or Snowgoose etc., really feel they need a backup aux. outboard (say: 5HP), in case their only engine breaks down.

Or can anyone tell of their engine giving up and wishing they had listened to that small voice saying, before they cast off: "Get a 5HP outboard. Get a 5HP outboard. You'll regret it if you don't."

i allways felt that my engine was a back up for the sails.

Re: Prout Quest 33 auxiliary engine ?

We have a Gemini but it came with a spring loaded motor mount on one of the rear steps.

We store the dingy motor on it. We've tested it but never had to use it in a real life situation. In calm conditions it will produce maybe 3kts. In rough conditions I would be less confident but rough conditions typically come with wind so the sails should be an option.

(5hp outboard)

Any particular reason you ask that about Prouts?
There's a gazillion tris, monos, and powerboats running around out there without extra engines.

Good point. I just bought a Prout Quest 33cs and wonder what fellow Prouties think of the possible back-up. Main engine is a Yanmar 2GM inboard diesel 18HP.
