Lightbulb Prout Owners Unite

Hi All,
I just purchased a 1997 Prout 39 "Double Bells". I would like to find out if there is a Prout Owners Association and if not how about we form one ourselves? If one exist please let me know, if not, and you are interested in forming one please contact me. New to Prouts I have a few questions about various aspects of the vessel. I first need to upgrade the waste holding system. The previous owner used what I believe are the waste holding tanks as auxillary fuel tanks for his Atlantic crossing. I need to find out how to best plumb these tanks back into waste tanks. Any help would be great.

Prout Cats.

Purchased an older (1972) Prout Snow Goose 36', since I'm single handing this one suits me perfectly, she handles very easily, from the cockpit, has enough interior room, and all around a great Cat.
If anyone knows where to get the factory specs (wiring) for this vessel I would appreciate that info.

I think the Prout Owners Association went Tango Uniform with Prout.

It would be great for someone to take on the challenge and get one going again.

Ours is a South African built 38’ with the model name Manta. Only about 35 or so built. Very similar to the 39' Escale.

At this time we are cruising and only get to the internet about once every week or two, so can’t lend much support right now.

Kimberly Grant (http://www.kgrantphoto.com/) started a news letter almost 2 years ago, but I don’t think she got past issue #1. She was on a Snowgoose “Nice N Easy”.

Our boat can be seen at www.stateham.com/sunspotbaby

snowgoose 37

I just purchased a 1985 snowgoose 37 about a month ago. I think that a Prout club would be great. I am starting a complete rebuild of the boat. Wiring, electronics, plumbing, everything. We are planning on going south in '09 and the boat needs the work. I will be starting a webpage and I will try to document it as best I can. Having a club would sure let me contact others to ask info.

OK Prout owners - Is there a response to the issue of disintegrating foam insulation or isn't there?
The question of the abandoned 37 in the south atlantic because the crew was being poisened by the insulation dust, I find amazing.
Trying to find out if it is true, then to check my Fountaine Pajot.

Bill

I have had the crumbling head liner problem on my boat, and eventually removed all the headlining and crumbling insulation myself. Definitely a nasty irritant, but was not something that I would have abandoned a boat because off!

Replaced my headlining with a felt based carpet which provides a better insulation quality than the previous foam layer and doesnt suffer from the same de-composition problems.

prout headliner

Many Worst Marine stores have back issues of Practical Sailor. One of the issues has instructions for replacing the headliner.

Prout Owners

Prout Catamaran Owners Assn., Tony Williams, 9 Chestwood Close, Billericay, Essex, CM12 0PB, UK, (44) 1277 651830.

This is a different address from the previous one.
Tony used to be the chairman of the association and very knowledgable about anything Prout.

Hope this helps.

prout autohelm

OK Heres the first challenge for the soon to be Prout Assoc.. I have a 37 snowgoose. Right now it has an older Cetrek pilot. A 701, I believe. Can someone point me in the right direction so that I can update to a modern system? I have no idea if the Cetrek works or not but is there a system that can make use of the hydraulics from the old system or is it a case of starting from square one. I don't mind that but I don't have the faintest as to where to start. The Cetrek should have a rudder position indicator and I have found (I think) the Hydraulic drive for the Cetrek. OK, now where do I go? I'm thinking that I should just go to a marine company and say put something in but I don't want to do that if I can help it. Believe it or not I'm usually good with this kind of thing but I have no experience with hydraulic steering in a boat.

Cetrek autopilot

Hi,
Sailorboy, before you throw away anything, what instruments do you have together with the Cetrek system? I also have a Cetrek autopilot and it (still) works well, coupled to Cetrek Chartnav-GPS, Pilot and NAVigator instruments.
Whole system would consist of a rudder feedback unit, hydr. pump, connection box,(inside in cupboard), compass unit (under front seats) + command unit (Pilot)(outside), + eventually additional instruments like speed, depth, wind.

Hydraulic pump should be reusable with other systems as well, as it is adapted for the volume-displacement needed for Prout hydraulic steering.

If I can be of further help, let me know.

autopilot info

thanks Vincik. I have been at the boat show in Toronto and spoke to a man from Raymarine. He agrees with what you have said. I haven't pulled anything out yet and I will reuse what I can. I would like to contact you for some other info. re Prouts a little later into my rebuild.
Thanks again
