12 m cat (possibly a Lagoon 40) at the exit of Porto Turistico di Roma was filmed while attempting to leave the port despite the warning of port authorities.
"Strong winds" and 1-1,5 meter swells are reported. 3 brasilians were on board. They are all safe but the boat is a wreck..

Well, good judgement is at the heart of good seamanship... and not a lot of good judgement there..... also, give the engines all they got, (and keep it straight!) if you end up in a place like that either by poor judgement or poor luck.

Given the narrowness of that inlet, the high headwinds, and the breaking waves, it's incredible to me that anyone would have attempted this electively. Two little props against that? There must have been a desperate reason they attempted such an act.

Not enough speed and.. from the look of his shoulders he was using the helm for control instead of locking it central and using his engines to steer/control the boat.. very sluggish response's.

You would think so, eh?

But I don't know, seems to me a lot of people have inadequate respect for what the sea can do, and inadequate experience for dealing successfully with what they encounter. It's hard, because you don't know what you don't know, and how you handle difficulties may take good luck to see you through safely to learning more as you go along--or you may lose everything.

Going to sea is not as safe as taking SUV trips.

I find it icreadiable that the port authority’s allowed them to leave I have my boat there and I know the entrance has not been dredged for 9 weeks now and at the best of times it’s only 3.5 meters deep I will follow up with the marina guys who look after my boat to find out more

Sails up would not help this situation. Besides production cats like Lagoon and Leopards don't head to wind all to well.
