PDQ 36 Floating aroud the Atlantic Ocean

I did talk to the owner
and they had the boat for 10 years sailling experience with that boat and also good storm with it.

they encounter around 20-30 foot crashing seas and that was find
overnight they lost their rudder and needed to wait for the morning to get towed back (to halifax to get propelly fixed) by the canadian coast guard which are based in halifax,they told him to sit still and they would be there in the next 20hrs that boat was around 450miles south of halifax

overnight they put on their survival gear because the wave were crashing right on to the deck and made them really uneasy.
in the morning they were calling another 3 days of the depression hight wind and at the same time they lost there forestay and it was now getting more dangerous the mast was starting to swing fore and aft
they got a call by the canadian coat guard that their was a container ship going by and to get on it because a monohull sailboat had lauch mayday and they could not get to them for the next 2 days
so they told them to activate the epirb and the boat could get found later

now this is where it get bad
during the rescue from the container ship the cat slam very hard agains the hull of the container ship in the 30 foot seas until it desintegrate they had one person on the deck of the ship and one was still on the cat when it broke apart they had a hard time to find her but because of her survival suit they spotted her and brougth her to safety

and now that couple is looking for a similar cat pdq 36 because they felt really safe on that boat for all those years they had her

they would have been all right if the coast guard did not get another call or if the container ship could of shelter them of wavesfor a few hours so they could fixe there problem, but they have no time to spare they have a deadline to meet!

I beleve the other boat(Monohull) sunk because they never found any surviver

It would be interesting to find out how many cats are lost in the high latitudes versus being lost in the tradwind belts of the low latitudes. You would need to adjust the statistics to account for the number cats sailing in the different latitudes. I consider my Privilege 39 to be a low latitude cat.

The PDQ 36 has a relatively low bridgedeck, is lightly constructed, and is a relatively small catamaran to be sailing in high latitudes offshore. The weather up north changes quickly and is unpredictable to a significant degree. Even if you know what's coming, it's hard for a cat that size to outrun it.
