That was an early 3000 model. I believe they said hull number 47, year built 1985 and definitely outboard powered.

Hard for me to tell in a little picture.

But it's OK.

He has seen a PDQ up close and is in love all over again.

Re: PDQ 32 vs Gemini 105MC

are the outboards on the non-LRC model PDQ's actually connected to any steering, or is all that done with the rudders? The photos I've seen of the Yamaha installation don't look like there's much room to turn the motors side to side.

With twin engines there's no need for the outboards to be steerable or the need to use the rudders for maneuverability.

Correct. I back into my slip every day. Once the speed drops below ~ 2 knots, it's all about the engines.

To back into a slip coast about 10-15 feet out from the row at no more than ~ 2 knots. Center the wheel and don't touch it again. Put the outside engine in to reverse, perhaps 1/2 throttle (inside engine neutral) to slow the boat and begin the slide. As the boat stops in front of the slip (probably at a 45 degree angle at this point), put the inside engine in forward slow to continue the turn while holding the boat motionless. Minor adjustments will move the boat fore and aft and change the rate of spin. When you are close, reduce the forward engine and back in. Piece of cake.

Trivia: the CG test asks which way you should turn the wheel on a twin screw boat to maximize the rate of turn. The assumption is that there is a rudder behind the prop which will deflect the blast of the engine that is in forward. This is NOT the case for the PDQ, so using the rudder is useless and often troublesome. It does make sense for twin screw MONOHULL powerboats, where the screws are not widely spaced. However, the CG answer is wrong for this boat. Rely on the engines alone slow speed.

Re: PDQ 32 vs Gemini 105MC

are the outboards on the non LRC versions of the PDQs steerable, or are they fixed in place? I see that they tilt up ( from photos) but cannot tell if they can swivel or not.

Re: PDQ 32 vs Gemini 105MC

Byron,

Not steerable, don't need to be, can turn on a dime with throttles only.

Did you get my email?

Torqeedo isn't the only game in town.

The smallest offering from above would be like mounting (2) 20 hp outboards to the PDQ.

And for you guys who think you don't need your rudders with twin motors....try this little experiment:

Next time you're docking, turn one of the motors off and go ahead and dock the boat without touching the rudders.

Re: PDQ 32 vs Gemini 105MC

A question to the PDQ 36 non-LRC owners. Where would you mount this generator?
http://www.polarpowerinc.com/8340P_40415.pdf
Length: 717mm [28.2in]
Width: 393mm [15.5in]
Height: 576mm [22.7in]
145 kg [320 lb]

The above genny has output for battery charging only, no 120/240 60 cycle, in my intended use, to charge (2) 48 volt banks at 20Kw.

BTW, this 13Kw outboard is only 15mm wider than a Honda 9.9 (< 6/10")

Re: PDQ 32 vs Gemini 105MC

Genny in one hull, 320 lbs of batteries in the other?

I guess if that's the case it would no longer be a twin motor vessel and you would have to use the rudders. How about this, you guys with a single motor turn it of and try to dock without touching the rudders! Gotcha!!
