That looks more like it.

poiu, you are spot on there...they are pretty damn expensive boats. There have definitely been some good options thrown out there. It does seem that the Outremer51 is sort of in its own class as a production house Catamaran purpose built for serious cruising. I say that because they are on Hull 50 or something like that, not sure how many of the others mentioned are out there sailing, but my guess is quite a bit fewer. Not that its a bad thing or representative of the other boats abilities, I'm just saying they seem to be even more of a boutique builder than Outremer is. The debate is really if it is worth the $ or not vs. other options in the $1million dollar range & really only the individual buyer can answer that one.

Re: Outremer 51 - so I took a test sail

OK I'm totally biased having a 9 year-old Out 42, but speed does seem to be very near the top of their design brief without compromising too much on comfort. People who get off racing monos onto my boat always remark how cruisey it is and when my wife builds it up to speed they go very quiet. The photo was taken on holiday, so fully loaded....

Daggerboards help, and knowing where weight is unnecessary in the design appears to be well thought out. I imagine the newer ones haven't lost any of that thinking and if the rumour mill is correct, Outremer are about to take over the remains of Gunboat. Good match, I'd say.

Re: Outremer 51 - so I took a test sail

I am pretty far into pricing several boats including an Out 45. I don't find them significantly more expensive than new boats btw. A little more sparse maybe but near same pricing at eod.

I wouldn't trust a Rapier, based on the videos and what I've seen with Broadblue cats....

How about a Dazcat 1495?

That's the 995/10m - I've seen it and an 1195 in the flesh and they're pretty clean boats. Not sure what those protrusions are but they look to be at the aft of the boat - perhaps cockpit drainage? Serious cruiser / racers that are low volume built....

n

For the OP - you're a lucky man... those Outremers are AMAZING....

Thanks! Ok... so the 10m has the outboard and gas tank / propane box protrusion - the larger versions (1195 and 1495) don't.

Do you think the Balance 451 could keep up with the larger outremer 51? I bet it would be close.

"the Balance 451 begins at $550,000 FOB our China factory"

A businessman selling boats made in china vs. a respectable french yard selling boats made in france ? Well, I am french, nobody is perfect, you might say i am biased but my choice would be quite obvious. But more than that, the B451 is quite far from the specs of the O45. The B451 might be a fine boat though, I don't know.

I am surprised we all forgot to mention the freydis which might be the best oldschool comparison. Dazcat cats look pretty nice too ! but I believe they are more performance oriented.

it's more a testimonial to their lack of living space...give plenty of living space and performances and you ll fond them in charter fleet ..you'll find a ts42 in the charter fleet of dreamcharter in martinique if i m not wrong

Except. of course, that the Rapier 550 was designed by Darren Newton and is constructed by his Multimarine boatbuilders (as are Dazcats). The 400 is designed by a German designer and built in Poland by experienced builders. Construction of another Broadblue model (the 345) was moved there from China.

The Dazcats are very sporty, the Rapier 550 has more accommodation, but appears to have good performance.
