It's a beautiful boat, but it would be kind of embarrassing if they were racing those megabuck yachts in the AC "the world's premier sailing event" and somebody went smoking past in a little Farrier tri, kind of like this...

That's a typical pitchpole. Done it 100 times on a hobie 16. When I moved to charleston I bought a hobie 17 for this exact reason. more hull in the bow.
Basically those ac45s are a bad design. There needs to be more hull towards the front of the boat. More buoyancy.
On the other hand I like the crashes, nascar on the water!

I agree on all counts, and the boat just seemed to have too much power for it's size and weight. I have pitchpoled beach cats before, and it was always from STUFFING it into a large vertical wave. These conditions didn't look that bad, they just sailed it over... Something in the design is not right. IMO

You Havent heard of Americas Cup Mono - Australia 3 - literally breaking in two and sinking in a matter of seconds then?

Honestly as we may have pointed out before - any relevance between Aus 3 sinking and a cruising mono safety is nil, any relevance between an AC multi and my boat is nil.

I have seen five to six foot wind chop on 35 knot days when the current is ebbing hard. Nope, it's not ocean swell but it is enough to make things rough on cats the size they plan on racing.
